Stabbing Pain in knee

Hi folks

I have OA in both knees but just lately my right knee seems to get locked into a position which makes it blooming hard to move. It causes me a great deal of pain. Any OA sufferers out there know what I mean? The only thing that seems to help is if I lie down and rest. I try and potter around the house doing little jobs but my legs are letting me down. Everything seems so much harder. The only thing that seems to be working very well is my brain! I feel driven to accomplish things but arthur keeps being a pain in the rear and all the things I want to do cannot be accomplished. What I need is a robot.

I'm off to try and get comfy. One more amitriptiline to take and a few pages of my novel and I should be out for the count provided my OA ridden joints don't play up.

Goodnight folks.
Sharmaine

Hi, yes i get the stabbing pains in my knees too.
    I have OA.
sometimes i get it when im walking & i have to stop, hold my breathe as i want out scream out with the pain & have to hold on to something. I get some strange looks.
mine seems to go right through the sides of my knees, as if someone has stuck a red hot poker through them.(not that i know  ) & lifting my knee caps off.
I also get the feeling that my knee's wants to buckle backwards (strange ) when im coming down the stairs. I think that comes down to my joint hypermobility.
Hope you get some relief from it all soon.
    luv deb

Oh goodness yes I can relate to that feeling....my OA is pretty early stage in my left knee (but the right one is now showing all the same signs....) and I get the stabbing pains and burning hot shooting feeling from time to time, plus the giving way feeling which i put down to the fact the muscles have got weaker around it because of the lack of mobility and flexibility. I realised yesterday i couldn't remember what a pain free knee felt like, just that i know when the pain is lower level and I might be able to "dial" it out for a bit. I didn't think at 40 I'd have knees like this, but they do run in my family (well, not literally - i couldn't run for a bus at the moment!!!)

Take care all, Sharmaine I hope you got some sleep xxx

    Hi everyone
Thanks for responding. Even on 3 amitriptilines I'm being woken up with pain. After Christmas I'll see what the GP has to say.
It sounds to me as if this is a problem for all of us. I lead with my right knee and it hurts with every step. Most of the pain is on the inside of the leg. I expect that joint has finally collapsed and bones are rubbing together and getting locked.

I'll try the shower thing - in fact I'll try anything!

    Hi cyrmraeg
I didn't sleep last night just couldn't get comfy. I'll have a nap this afternoon.
Isn't it freezing. The paths are slippery and the roads too. I was going to visit my old school today but I don't think I'll risk it. I've sent them an email to apologise. I'm sure they'll understand.

Hi, I'm still having problems with the medical services for ATOS about arranging my ESA medical they insist that the medical must take place at their centre, even though I turned up for an appointment and after waiting for an hour, they told us to go away as it was 5pm and they didn't have time! My husband has to take me as its 17 miles away, across the city centre and has no parking closer than a 10 min walk away! The last time I went, I tripped into the building,as it has a very small step of about 2 inches and is unlit, so at 4pm, which was my appointment, it was quite dark inside with 4 steep steps leading down to the main building and no handrail by the door. Sorry, this is whaffle, surfice it to say that it is not suitable for disabled people and quite frightening to trip into the building and then nearly fall down the steps inside the door.

Anyway, my husband told the receptionist that he would be unable to bring me again and as it would be term time, and working in a school, they don't allow holidays in term. If they wanted to see me they would have to come out to my home. They say that 'evidence that I can't get their is needed from my GP before the 4th of Jan. This is not easy, as the holidays mean that the health centre is run on a reduced staff basis and as they have been so good and helpful to me I don't like to ask yet again, at this busy time of year, especially as its just meaningless paper work.

I spoke to the DWP centre and they have noted all this down and told me that if I don't go they will send me a form to ask why and then I should explain all the circumstances and make a formal complaint. Also complain about the access to the building and the near miss accident. I feel a bit worried about all this and I'm sorry to go on about it but, I've done everything asked of me, so far, yet they won't give any assistance or help.

My husband, would, in fact take time off but I feel that he's taken enough off for these people already and he will have to take some off to come to the hospital, which is more important to me. Its a long journey to the medical centre and because of the traffic, takes over an hour.

Sorry this is boring, well its boring me anyway!!! :(

I feel like starting a campaign to patition the Govenment about using such bad service providers, but I don't think, after all this, I'll have the energy! Love Sue

Hi All, have recently had trouble with right knee locking and severe pains in both knees. Yes, I too would lke to pull off both kneecaps and scratch at the pain. Was under local PCT for treatment, but now referred to local ortho' unit. Saw specialist who has put me on waiting list for keyhole surgery. Suggest that it's time for more help from your team if knee(s) are locking. Good Luck.
Apain free Christmas to all, and remember, don,t overdo it, Stan the man.

    Hi Stan

Frist TKR operation is due in the New Year. Sleeping is proving very difficult ...with both knees aching I can't seem to get comfy.

Hopefully it'll all settle down and I'll find some relief. I don't expect this weather is helping much.

Hello Sharmaine. You really are going thro it at the moment. It's all so frustraiting for you and obviously you need your medication looked at again plus xrays to assess the damage. I can relate to being uncomfortable to whole time and have lost count of the cushties I have bought to rest different joints on, between knees and so on. I bought mine on Amazon and sometimes you can get them in Aldi.
Sue - You are certainly getting the run around to get the ESA medical sorted. Perhaps it would be beneficial to send your letter or request to speak to the centre's Department Head. They are never in the wrong and certainly seem to be anti-disability. The problem re your fall should have been brought to their attn immediately and with a trip to your A&E, they may have changed their attitude. It's no good trying to talk to some of these people.
I am having exactly the same attitude from DWP re my DLA, but I know I am just wasting my time. I do hope you get things sorted soon.

I find that when I am walking, or coming down stairs my knees feel as if they are floating about They feel like they to go off in one direction to the rest of my body. with the pain following on afterwards. My anckles are the worst With my hips, the painspreads all round and into my groin and down my legs. Ah well There's not much else that can be done about it so I have to get on with it in my case anyway.

    Hi Joy, Sue, Mellman

Yes, I think I may need to have meds looked at again. I may try to see my GP on Monday. I thought I had my sleeping position cracked but just lately the pain is driving me insane and I can't get comfy at night. Frist I tried my wedge cushion and that didn't help; then I propped up legs with pillows and that didn't help. In the end I got out of bed and had a cup of tea. Eventually I dozed off for an hour. I thought I might try leaving my amitriptilines until I go to bed rather than taking them at 9pm. I'm a miserable person without sleep!!! :):)

Sue, I hope you get sorted out soon - what a mess!

I've been keeping myself busy today in the kitchen - made another Christmas pudding which we'll have in the New Year; some more cranberry sauce and tonight's meal. My perching stool has been such a godsend - I can sit and chop veggies; cook; wash up etc!! OH is in London working and won't be home until 7pm - so I've been alone. Son and his wife went to Bournemouth to see friends. If I had two good legs I would've gone into town or gone to London with OH.

    Have a good weekend folks.
