Hi Lynn
Have you checked with your OT dept. I go every Fri to OT for stretch and wax. Half hour of very gentle stretching exercise then half hour sat with the wax on my hands.
I can't say it helps with the pain much but it is very soothing and hands don't feel quite as stiff for a while after.

There are about 6 of us go and it's good to sit and have a natter and put the world to right.

Not all area's do it, I only waited about 6 weeks here in Norfolk.
Might just be worth a phone call to your OT dept, but not sure if you would have to be refferd by GP, I was

    Hi Lynn and Springs,

They sound really good but do they just do hands?

Lynn there was a post about these a while back, I wonder if you put wax treatments if it would come up? I would do it for you but my eyes are slightly better but not good and I might end up with all the wrong things  Count me in when you go to Springs meetings though

    Hi
Yes, they are good to have, but you need to check with your OT department first. Before I bought one myself I had had about 26 weeks or more of treatments, exercises before I researched them and finally bought the one I had. I got mine off Amazon , Champneys and it comes with 2 packs of paraffin wax. There are 3 settings and you have to know how to use the machines first. Otherwise, you stand a good chance of burning yourself. I have since purchased 3 more packs of wax from an alternative source.

You can always have a word with your practice nurse if you can't see an OT. I have also gone on and acquired a hand held massager which helps me between the hand exercises I do.

I don't know if you are like me at the moment, but my fingers are very painful at the moment. Stiff, achy and my knuckles are quite swollen. Suppose it is a bit of a flare.

The Champneys is about £39, but it is one of my favourite purchases.

I have a ring well and truly stuck on my swollen middle finger. Would this parrafin wax treatment help me get it off (have already tried melted butter, cold water etc to no avail)?

Wibs, I had the same problem and in the end managed to get it off with the wool trick. Hot soapy water, of course and a piece of wool (or thin string). Thread the wool between the ring and the finger so that it is looped round. Keep soaping the finger around the ring; I found it was easier to pull it off like this, so it might be worth a try. The other thing I was told is that if it does get too stuck over the knuckle try putting your hand in a bowl of very cold water to shrink the finger a bit and keep easing the ring off with the wool. I didn't have to resort to that, which I'm glad about as I would have found the cold water painful!

It did take me about 15 minutes to get it off, but I was really relieved when I did. I'd already had to have one ring cut off a few months earlier and this was the replacement!

Annie - I will give your trick a go. Getting a bit desperate as it's getting reeeeeeally itchy under the ring!

Lynn - I'll phone a couple of local salons and see what they suggest. Nothing like the threat of a circular saw to spring you into action!

    Thanks,
