Hi
I have "mild OA" as my GP said in my lower spine, I am waiting to hear results of an x-ray on my C3 top of spine.
i now have pain in one of my fingers which appears swollen as it is larger compared to my other fingers. I also have a hard lump on the side of my knuckle, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it might be, I sometimes get pain in my wrist with a small swelling at the side of my wrist but that isn't too painful. I dont like to bother GP because as i have seen 2 previously and neither of them seemed interested, didnt even get any pain relief. sorry to bother you
hope you can help

Thanks
marg

    Hi Marg

Lumps or nodules can develop around the knuckles of the fingers. These lumps are called Heberden's nodes (when around the more distant knuckle) or Bouchard's nodes (when around the closer knuckleThey consist of bone spurs, or osteophytes, around the joints. These knuckles often become enlarged, swollen, and stiff.

Could be a ganglion on your wrist.

I would see a doctor if you are worried about them because only they will be able to diagnose or refer you to a hand specialist. If you feel your gps are not "interested" ask to be referred to a specialist.

    Hi Marg

Please do not apologise for moaning because you are not. You are asking questions. It is totally wrong that your gps are making you feel like you are a time waster. You most certainly are not and it is their job to help and advise/refer you. That is what they are paid to do. Please do not let them fob you off. They may well not specialise in arthritis and in that case they should refer you to someone who does.

    Chin up,

    Luv
