Hi, Has anyone seen The Times today, on page 7 their is a small bit about how Yvette Cooper, Work and Pensions Sec. is so pleased that the new ESA test is working so well, stopping people from claiming benifit. Its so good that she is going to allow 500 new doctors to get through the people on IB and re-train all those who can do any work!!! I havn't looked on-line. I'll just have a look!
Just checked, you can see this at Times On-Line and search Yvette Cooper;

Perhaps they could retrain all the people on IB to be ESA docs ... kill two birds with one stone??!!
I'm sure there are people on IB who shouldn't be but such statements don't do much for the morale of those who are genuinely claiming do they.
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
HI, After reading the doctor's report of my ESA medical, I think all you need to do is be good at writing fiction! I think its really awful to give people in general the impression that benefit claimers are all liers.
We are people who have to cope with pain, distress, worry about medications that don't work or the painful tests we have to have. Its no game to me and I'm the lucky one that hasn't had to have the operations and hospitalisations that lots people have. I do know I'm lucky, I have a husband and a very, very small pension. I can manage without a wage, in the end, but at 55, with no claims until now, why should I have to? Years of paying taxes should count for something.
Right, rant over!Love Sue

I think the aim is to keep everyone nicely frightened and feel like a criminal. Shame on them, for putting those of us who are genuinely ill and disabled, through potentially more hoops. If we wanted to jump through so many, we would have joined a circus. :xXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0

Just read the article it's disgusting. The people who really need this benefit are the ones that suffer most. the reason for the reduced numbers is that you have to be the walking dead to get anything.
Sue, you said you are lucky because your hubby works & you have a small pension but who is paying your NI contributions at the moment. If you get ESA, I think they will pay but at the moment you are in limbo. If this is not being paid it could effect your state pension and other bennefits when you reach retirement age.

I am shaking my head from side to side in disbeleif. People on this benefit have been disabled probably for life. This is just plain cruel.
I undertysand that teh scivers need to be sorted, but thi is just ridiculous.
Thanks Sue for raising it
Love

HI Toni, I'm getting ESA at the moment, but it might stop if I loose the appeal, unless I find work. It would mean loosing out on pension, but unless theirs a miricle, or they come up with some work scheme that I can cope with, I'll just have to bere it. It makes me cross, for 2 years I looked after my Mother-in-Law, and I did it for nothing, didn't claim a penny, she even paid to have her flat, which was on the side of our house converted. We never thought of claiming, as she could afford it using the money she sold her house for. Sue
One of the things that was also taking up a lot of new space yesterday was about the Economically inactive people, who are not working and just staying at home. What happens to the people, like me, if I lose benefit? I stay at home, I can't claim JSA, as I don't feel up to jumping through the hoops and the nearest Jobcentre is too far away for me to drive. Its a thirty mile round trip. Oh well, sorry I'm ranting again! I'll go and have a nice shower! Love Sue0 -
Hi
I'll have a look at this later. Maybe we should write Yvette Cooper and tell her how we feel about her ESA tests and doctors!!!
Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Hi
I've just read the article. Let's just hope that future assessments are fair and they take into consideration all the facts: GP's reports; specialists reports/xrays etc. Lately it seems that the innocent are suffering because of the guilty.

I was just looking through the paper and I didn't see the piece at first, I read the article above, then looked down and read that and gosh, I his the roof! I thought even if people look at the paper, they could easily miss it, tucked away at the bottom of the page, so I dashed through here and tyeped out the post! I think writting would be a good idea, I left a comment as had quite a few people all, except one, against Ms Cooper. You always get one!!!!
Glad to point it out.
