Hi
Having had Jaw pain for about 8/9 months and its getting worse, my dentist has said i need a jaw guard, cant actually remember what she called it but something like a mouth guard, that you wear at night and when you are resting.
It cost alot of money £200  so i was wondering if anyone else has had one of these and did it help with the pain?
Or has anyone managed to get rid of there jaw pain any other way?
Thanx

    Hi Page,

I got a soggy jaw and that hurts a bit but the exercises I was given help as well. Could you see OT about one? I don't know if you can but it might be worth asking Bubbles and ((( )))'s Cris x

Hi Lynn Thanks for that i wonder how yours was £50 and mine £200 :? even £50 is alot if it dont work but £200, if i get rid of the pain it will be worth it though, might ring around a few dentist see what there prices are,but i do really like my dentist.
is it called a jaw guard, do you know?

hi Cris, i ask Rheumy nurse about it other day she said i have to go dentist again, went when it first started as thought i had an abscess, but sadly not. When i saw the OT months back she said she couldn't help with the jaw.
Hopefuly the guard will help, its even hurting when i eat cake now and thats not good.

    Thanx to you both XXX

    Hi Page,

Missed this first time round, sorry. I used to wear a bite guard when I was in my teens .....before I developed RA

Mine was fitted free from the dental hospital and was then called 'jaw traction' I had to wear it day and night. It totally cured my clicky jaw which used to 'stick' on occasions. I had to wear it for a long time and then I was gradually weaned off it.

When I developed RA 10 years later I did get a very painful jaw in the beginning which again occasionally stuck but this did go away on it's own without any help.

Don't suppose that helps with your dilemma but just thought I'd throw it in. :|

hi Page, surely if you don't work you don't pay for your jaw guard? Or is it that you haven't got an NHS dentist? Anyway, it surely can't cost £200 for a bit of moulded plastic?

    Hi
Have you been referred to a max fax doc? I was referred there after jaw pain and discovered RA in my jaw. After that I was fitted with a bridge raising mouth guard probably similar to the one you've got and of course it was free on the NHS. try asking your GP for a referral. My RA had caused a lot of damage to the joint so I'm glad I took that route. :|
Unfortunately I am still having serious probs with my Jaw. Hope you don't have further problems.
    Take care
    Claire :)

    Hi Page,

Tell her you just can't afford one and see if she can help at all...... 200 is really staggering..... I think if my soggy jaw ever needs it I will have to mould my own  Good luck Flower and maybe yours like Legs (oh Legs you have given me hope x) will settle down on its own? Bubbles and ((((( ))))) and nice to see you :D xxx

    HI
My experience with jaw guards I had a rubber one made which I chewed to bits  then I had a hard plastic one made and I still managed to chew it apparently very unusual  It broke off during the night but luckily Im a light sleeper. Im a jaw grinder and if you have that problem it might cause more problems than it solves. It did with me it caused me serious headaches and when I saw my chiropractor who specialises in skull work as well as spine he said my skull was really out so no wonder I had severe headache. I still get jaw pain but grind a bit less now I think because my body now realises it gives me another joint to feel pain from
Hope you feel better whatever you decide. :D
