Hi everyone,

Please can anyone shed any light on this really unbearable feeling I have in my back. It feels like I really need to stretch out my back on a rack and having been stretching for the last 36 hours it is still the same. It feels like a really heavy weight is on top of my spine pressing down. its in the tops of my arms and legs too and they feel v weak. I'm on crutches at the moment but no new medication. I haven't slept for the last 2 nights because of it. Please can anyone help? THank you thank you!

    Hi Stlucia

I only just saw this

I hope you did take some medical advice??? Sounds a bit of a worry to me. Not being able to sleep is probably the worst thing you can have, but this feeling sounds ODD to say the least.

If you havent as its a bank hol weekend - and the docs will be closed - if it hasnt gone...maybe you could ring NHS direct. i for one havent had this and would get it checked out.

I do hope you will say - it's fine now.

    Love

    Hi,
    Sorry you're feeling like this.
You are using crutches at the moment. Have these symptoms come on since the crutches or did you have it before?

I'm asking because I'm suffering the same at the moment, although I haven't been diagnosed with arthur in my back or shoulders. However, I have noticed that if I have to take my wheelchair, I have a stupid habit of putting my arms along the arms of the chair a lifting myself into a more comfortable position, or when standing up to get into the car. I then suffer for days afterwards.

A friend who is an orthopeadic person told my mum that the problem in her shoulder was caused by using walking stick which was not the correct height.

I really can sympathise and agree with the others about talking to the doctor. Don't these things always happen at holiday time when the system's shut down!

Thank you so much lovely people. I am relieved to say that it seems to have mostly gone away. I'll get my crutches checked to see if they are right as I'm sure the horrid feeling was down to them now as I've been resting and not using them. Phew! I'm so much happier! ! Thank you again!

Glad you are feeling better. Until you can get your crutches checked professionally, here is a link re how to find the recommended height for crutches,

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
