    Thank you so much Barbara!

It will be so good having a useful wrist ....and .....one that is pain free will be an added bonus

I will be sure to let you know how it goes x

    Iris xx

    Thanks too Trisher,

How thoughtful of you sending me good luck wishes when you have your own op to think about on Tuesday....I really appreciate that. :!:

I'm not sure when I'll have the TWR but as I'm having the pre op on the 30th I think it'll be the first week in May (barring emergencies that is!!)

I do wish you lots of luck too and hope you will have a speedy recovery.

    Hi Iris,

Oh I echo Chris yo have let nobody down at all and well I kinda think things come right in the way they are meant to very often.

Oh flower don't ever watch ortho surgery  I spent a week in theaters during my training and well somethings are best not known :lol::lol: A ((( ))) for the shock and just get either zonked or heavily sedated.....

I really hope it goes well for you, I don't know much about it but do know a lady who had it done and she really rates it, though I don't know why she had it done.

I will send shed loads of hope that you get some answers and some help of some treatments soon that will keep it all under control for you.

Another ((((( ))))) and well a big hi to those of us with duff wrists guinea pig  Luv Cris xx

Oh thanks for all of that Cris...and for making me smile. :D:D

with work....I just don't want peeps out there to think it's all not worth fighting for...cause it definitely IS. It was that bleeping pain in the **** arther causing such double trouble and then not being able to start on the next anti tnf, now the op.......only so much a gal (sorry, a guinea pig) can do :|

I'm also a great believer in things turning out the way they're meant to be...otherwise how would we cope with what life throws at us?

Thanks too for all the shock and other ((hugs)) and I definitely won't be watching any more ortho ops  .
I will be well and truly zonked and on another planet for the op..
I did ask but they won't let me have it done by block anaesthetic even though I had my elbow done that way. :| makes no sense to me at all.it was the same with the fusion...not 'allowed' a choice :?

It'll be good having a couple days away...don't know how I'll cope without the forum though  my son says I'm addicted to it. No doubt I'll be on it for hours when I get back just to catch up with it all.

hope you are OK Cris.... :?: (((hugs))) for you too...hope arther behaves a bit better for you.

    Hi Iris,
It's a funny thing though...we spend weeks, months waiting and hoping for the ops we so need....then when we are given a date we begin worrying about having it! I've already started !
    How very true.

Enjoy your holiday - it'll keep your mind off things.

Congrats on getting a good early retirement package - it's all about working for as long as we want to do so and getting the right package when WE decide to call it quits ... all the more time for you to advise us lot on the forum!!!

How daft re watching your op on Youtube - I love things medical - but not watching ops I've had/am going to have!!

Stop posting or you'll never get that packing done!!

    Speedalaong
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    HI Iris

I had to have further surgery on the wrist too because I started having problems with the side near my thumb. Years ago now and it really good to be honest.

I am having problems with my other wrist now, its causing me pain most days. I'm keeping a close eye on it though and I would not hesitate if they said that they needed to fuse it like the other, at least its pain free. xx

    Hi kerry,
I'm glad you had a good result from the wrist fusion even though you did have to have a bit more surgery.

your other wrist sounds very sore? :( rather than another fusion would you consider a wrist replacement? the advantage is that you would have greater flexibility and dexterity after a TWR. My surgeon said he would not recommend 2 fusions (unless there was no choice or the TWR failed) as they are too rigid and create difficulties with personal care.

I'll be honest Iris, that's what really bothers me. I'e always had my other one so didnt really cause me major problems in the personal care department, but now i'm in pain with the other one, things are a little more difficult. I can imagine what life would be like with both fused - you are right with the  It scares me xx

    Hi Cris :D

Ruby and Jakey boy were double trouble while I was away...so I think slipper boy whispered naughties in their ears before I left.

I had a lovely couple of days away...and it looks like I just got back in time before they closed the airports due to the volcanic ash!

hope you are ok and that the sale goes well. (((hugs))) and slurps from two naughty labs!

    Hi speedalong!

thanks so much for your encouraging words.....I did eventually manage to get packed but not til the morning I travelled...hopeless

I am feeling more relaxed after my days away..it was great just to shake off my usual routine. :!: rotten old arther just had to come too but behaved not too badly.

My metal bits set off the scanners in Frankfurt Hahn airport (but not in Edinburgh :?: ) and I did have a wee bit difficulty explaining that the metal causing the bleeping was 'inside' and couldn't be removed. Not sure they believed me though

I'm going to phone the ortho today to get the date for the op so that I know how soon after the pre op it is. I need to organise for the dogs to be looked after while I'm in, and kennels can be difficult to book.

    Hi kerry,

I do know what you are feeling and have had the same worry. but .....

the wrist won't get fixed on it's own will it :?: ....... and if you leave it too long you run the risk of not having any surgical options and in any case the personal care issues will be just as real with a 'self fusing' wrist..

Speaking to the ortho does not mean you have to go through with any ops....but it does give you the choice :!:
As it is you are worrying about it anyway so what is there to lose by seeing him?

Just catching up on this thread now sorry I've not been around much. HOpefully you'll get a date for the op soon and fingers crossed everything sails along with the pre op assessment.
I'd no idea how many people suffer with wrist problems due to arthritis. :(
So glad to hear you've had a nice little break and got back safely. It would be awful to be stuck away from home while all this volcanic ash is stopping the flights.
    Big hugs, rita

    Hi Rita :D
nice to see you posting! hope you have been keeping OK and arther hasn't been up to his real nasty tricks again?

I didn't realise either how many suffer from wrist problems before I joined this forum...it's been a revelation...also how many peeps have PA.

I tried to find out the date of my op today....but no luck...the assessment sister said that my ortho consultant does his own theatre lists and is on holiday until Monday.

As I was being my usual persistent (but nice) self she offered to speak to him next week and then phone me IF he tells her the date and IF he agrees for her to let me know over the phone!
lots of ifs there but that's ok!....just have to be patient and wait. no harm in asking!
