Did your consultant retire?

just wondered since my consultant is retiring soon ......... yet I got a letter today with my new appointment and it still has his name on it :? :?

what happens?

DO they write and let people know who will take over, or have I got chance to choose I wonder?

Just being nosey really and seeing what has happened to others in this situation.

I don't even know if the others in the team will take over his patients or they will employ someone new. all very confusing!!

    Hi Wonky,

    When my Rheumy moved jobs he decided to discharge me and I was left high and dry for 7 years struggling on my own with a massive flare gradually building up :shock: :shock: The worst thing that's ever happened to me :(

    If you have a next appointment letter, even with his name on, I would think that you'll be looked after by his team. Maybe they haven't replaced him yet :?

    not happened to me either....I thought that you would just be transferred to another rheummy in the team?
    There are 4 consultants in my rheummy team and although I'm registered on one con's list I more often than not see a different one when I attend.

    Why not phone and ask the rheummy's secretary? they know everything and are usually very happy to help!

    I have been known to get letters saying I'll see 'Mr um' ..... instead of the rheumy nurse ........ there is no such person I was told when I queried it :roll: :roll: just a 'holding name' :shock:

    legs that sounds terrible .... :shock: :shock: I hope you are better looked after now?

    There are other rheumys but they don't see each other's patients as far as I know, but no doubt they will tell us something sometime!

    I'm sure if she survived medical school there will be nothing you can throw at her that will faze her! :lol::lol:

    that's a good suggestion but I'll leave it until nearer the time .... give them time to work out what they plan to do themselves :lol::lol::lol:

    They didn't Blow that. 7 years on your own, well that is the worst thing I have ever heard. Are they ok with you now legs???

    as my husband (hospital dr) is sat right here I thought I'd ask him
    he says it depends
    You will probably either get put on the list of a new Rhemy if they have appointed one...it may still have your original one on there as they haven't yet made the appointment (by that I mean put somebody in the post not an appointment slot if that makes sense)
    Otherwise if the budget is tight they may not be appointing a replacement in which case they will share the list of patients between the other consultants in the team (hospital)
    You probably won't get a choice but if you find you don't get on with who you end up with you can request to change.
    I hope that makes it a bit clearer & you find out what you want to know soon...fingers crossed you end up with somebody wonderful and brilliant

    thanks Chrissie & thanks to your hubby too - it all makes a lot of sense and well I am just hoping that I'll get on with the new person a bit better ........ I'll try hard anyway :wink:

    Hopefully the rheumy nurses will keep things feeling 'normal' and well I get on well with them so that is ok :D

    I'm not worrying ...... just want to make this work cos I put off changing for so long ..... and now I can :D

    Hi Wonky and Trisher,

    I was scared being left on my own but decided I just had to grit my teeth but each day I got a tiny bit worse not noticing at first until all my joints stopped working one night :shock: :shock: ....was rushed into hospital and was in for 4 nights while they got me mobile again :D

    I'm now under the care of the best Rheumy I've ever had who immediately put me on Mtx, he did say that my body had been damaged alot by the lack of care. :roll:

    Anyway I said all that just for sympathy :wink: ....but it is true :D

    The moral of my story is never, ever struggle on your own with arthur, seek help always.

    I guess you will just be given the replacement rheumy who moves into his post.

    You never know if you are lucky you may get a nice young dishy one!!!! Thats got to be better than one whos near retirment age.
