Hi everyone, just a question, and probably will sound silly!! I have badly split skin under my right heel that wont heal up, been like it for about 4 weeks, and has got worse. i showed it to hubby, who said it looks "disgusting". I know I walk too much, due to pushing double buggy etc. Also my ankles are HUGE at the moment and sooo painful. I showed my ankles to the nurse who does my bloods, and she said oh you should elevate your legs. Then we both loooked at little Amelie who was running around the waiting area and laughed, and said fat chance!! Should i wait until 20th when I see specialist nurse, or do I need appt with gp? i am worried about getting an infection in the heel, as wih the immune system being suppressed it will take so long to heal, which is probably why its taking so long now, I get it alot, and its usually better within a few days. Am on 3 dmards plus 7.5mg pred. Thanks

Hi Jordan,
I think really you should get it looked at sooner cus it might be infected depending on what your husband means by disgusting? You might be able to just see a nurse about it and then she will be able to call in the doctor if she thinks it needs t be tabletted.
Good luck with it and how deep is the split and is it oozing? TMI at tea time eh?Cris x

Hi Cris, yes, delightful talk for early evening eh!!! well, it seems quite deep, but nothing coming out of it. He says its deep though and not looking very pleasant!!
Can call for emergency appt on Monday, so will try that then, thanks for the reply, hope you doing ok, just reading about the sheep rustling!!!
Dont worry, if you get arrested we'll start a "free the skeizer" group x x0 -
Hey will hold you to that if i am carted off
Glad your going to get it seen its probably ok if its not oozing but it should be healing and well REST it! Yeah I know sometimes you just can't. Keep it clean and finger crossed and let us know please? Cris x0 -
Hi Jay
Would it be better to see a chiropodist or a podiatrist, rather than the gp with something like this? Do you ever use a pummice stone on your heels after a bath or shower and then put on moisturising cream/or vaseline to soften your feet? Probably at the mo, from what you say the pummice stone is best not used but you could moisturise your feet before you go to bed and wear socks all night. That may help.....

If this were me, I would soak my foot/feet in a bowl of lovely, warm water with a generous splash of Dettol in it. That will minimise any risk of infection and soften the skin. After, rub in some Savlon or other antiseptic cream on the split, moisturise the rest and keep your feet covered.
I would go the docs first, and then have regular chiropody appointments to help keep hard skin etc under control. I can't bend my knees sufficiently enough to do my own feet - plus my HUGE FAT TUMMY gets in the way too! I get my feet done every 10 weeks or so, it's so much easier than doing it myself. Hi DD
Is it expensive to see a chiropodist? I'm the same as you with not being able to reach my feet and would like my nails trimmed every so often

hi, if you cant get to see a dr soon i would recommend soaking your feet in warm water and dabbing on some echinacea oil. I swear my it for infections.0

Hi, well, saw the pharmacist this morning, she said the split is very deep and probably best not to use the heel balm on it as it may infect it. She advised using something like germolene or sudocrem to help it to heal. She also advised getting a gp appt, and telling the receptionist that I am on mtx etc.
So will call them tomorrow, thanks everyone0 -
We know our stuff! Glad you're getting it sorted and I hope it heals quickly. Take care. DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
