Are most of you quite relaxed about bloods now, or are you a bit fanatical about it?

Hiya Lynn,
So far......I've remembered to turn up, it's the appointment booking bit that I forget about!
Also, I was furious with my practice for mislaying my monitoring sheet......until I found it at home the other day!
So in answer to your question, no I've not forgotten to turn up....yet, but it's only a matter of time!

I go our local hospital. You stroll in to pathology whenever the fancy takes you, no appointment required. I go at 5.10pm 'cos they shut at 5.15, and I'm usually straight in, straight out. Parking's a doddle too at that time 'cos all the clinics are over so there is always a disabled bay free. I have been every fortnight for the last three years, now they have told me I can go to monthly. I am conscientious about it 'cos the medicos are doing their best for me - I have to keep my part of the bargain. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Lynn
i have never forgot to go for bloods as i hate needles and anything to do with blood and i have fainted a few times getting my bloods done
for me i have to go to the hospital to get it done also OH has to come with me (incase i faint) and i have to get a babysitter for my daughter so it has to be planned.
i have a coulpe of times gone a week late cos i havent felt well or OH hasnt been able to come or no babysitter, i never thought to call the nurse, she never calls back anyway.
my bloods so far have been ok thankfully.0 -
I try to go religiously. I make the next appt at the end of my last one, so it's booked and ready. It's much easier now I can go monthly, rather than every 2 weeks. My RD won't prescribe my MTX if my blood results aren't recent enough. I also had a scare last year when my white count disappeared. It was only thanks to regular bloods that it was picked up and acted on so quickly. Since that, I've tended to take my bloods much more seriously than I used to!0

I only take note of the inflammatory markers and my liver function tests! The former are in single digits, the latter only 12. (Apparently I can go up to 35 without any lectures on the evils of alcohol.) I used to fret about the others but now I can't be bothered. I'm not a doc, I don't know what they mean but it is very pleasant to see none of my results highlighted in red - it was a sea of red before humira. Hurrah! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Lynn,
I used to go monthly and book my next appointment before leaving the surgery. I was told by my Rheumy to only go have have bloods done every 3 months now as everything is stable and I just make a note in my diary to book blood on the month in question...... so I'm dead relaxed about it.

I haven't managed to get longer than 4weeks between blood tests (despite trying!!!!) and put the date for seeing the nurse in 'calendar' on my mobile and set it to remind me the day before ...so I don't forget!
It's hard to keep track of where I'm supposed to be just now and who I've to see....I need a personal secretary!

I don't expect either of you will be able to provide a CPN ceritficate ... as you are both obviously quite loopy ......but that's ok 'cause I'm a 'penny short of a shilling' myself.

I am quite relaxed about blood tests now.....just know the week I am supposed to have them. I wish I could book from month to month....but oh no, my lovely GP surgery, can only do 3 weeks in advance!!
My bloods are all very good (within range)....apart from ESR, which is usually very high......if it climbs again this time (Bloods next week), I think I will scream!!!!

I find going for blood tests a real pain ,im not scared of needles just started self injecting methatrexate , use to go for blood every four weeks but now have to go every two weeks my veins wont take much more .my right arm wont give any up,just hope my left one doesnt give up . my white blood cells almost disapeared so had to go and have extra b tests they are back to normal at present but for how long .
I have RA . dont know how most of you feel, having to have these tests I feel like a pin cushion . but at least i can still smile.
best wishes to all Jean0 -
collywobble wrote:Hi,
For those of you who have to get regular blood tests done, because of meds (eg MTX), how good are you at remembering? (an apt question, having read Pluggs thread about forgetting things)
I should have gone last Friday, but couldn't make it (no appointment necessary, just wait for the nurse). So, I thought no probs, I'll go on Monday - duh... bank holiday!!!! :? :? Woke up this morning, and hubby has taken my car, because his needs new brakes (or something mechanical)
He's likely to need it all week, so I rang the rheumy nurse, and he said because I've been on MTX a while now, with bloods being stable, next week would be fine - phew!!!!!

Sorry, I'm late coming in on this one
I have only forgotten one blood test. Got the weeks mixed up
I don't make appts. Just turn up at the path lab monthly. Because I have to keep a health check record for the rheumy nurse this helps remind me of my appts and when they are due. The check list is on my documents on my PC and Ihave to put a nil against each of the side affects caused by the MTX. If I have to put a tick, more than 2 ticks I then have to ring rheumy nurse side affects caused by the MTX. things like, loss of hair, sore mouth, rashes etc.
I think if you do miss a week, it's not such a bad thing. All you get are letters from the hospital or your surgery to say you have missed the injection and why.
