Hi Val,
Sorry abut your feet. I get swelling in mine after a sale and the only thing that gets them down is putting them up. I do wonder though if getting a quick once over from your gp is the answer? I hope they soon return to normal and me ... I is out of here((( ))) Cris xx

Hi val,
sorry your feet are giving you so much pain.....
I use heat rather than cold for relieving pain, but sometimes nothing seems to work does it
as Cris suggests keeping them raised might help a bit and if you have a caring OH, a foot massage with essential oils...like lavender...might ease up tense muscles....and just feel nice!
hope you get some relief soon.

Awhile back before arther was quiet so insistent, I used a TENS machine which was helpful at times with the aches but not the sharp pains. Heat is good as are pills. Not overdoing the walking bit is good. I can't stand the pressure of weight, even bedclothes, on them at night, so I hang them out of the bed and sleep on my tummy, never get cold feet though! A soak in warm water helps relax them. Tried reflexology on my feet a while back, wow, powerful stuff!
I haven't got any big toe joints left so well padded trainers are a must, I've had the made up insoles from NHS, they made things worse but may well help you? Something to think about, anyrate.

Hi Val,
years ago when I had trouble with my feet overheating and swelling (due to bunions not arther ... had an op on each and then much better) I had a cool stick thing - a bit like a a solid deoderant but smaller than I rubbed on my feet - it felt ice cold and really cooled them down. I think it was really designed for rubbing on the forehead ... but it gave fast topical relief. I think it was in the seasonal summer section of somewhere like Boots/Superdrug etc
Do you have a coffee break? Do you put your feet up even if for 10/15 mins? I always put my feet up at school at lunchtime - even if only pausing for 15 mins ... really notice the different with my knees if I don't.
Let's hope rheumy has some suggestions.

PS have you seen those gel insoles? Don't know if this will work - could try popping them in the fridge/freezer and then slipping them into your shoes part way through shift - worth experimenting?I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

Val, I have mega probs with feet although some of mine is due to neuropathy. I have found a couple of really good sprays which I use, but any of the 'heavy, aching legs' gels or sprays should give you some relief. Bo*ts own brand is just as good as any.
I also find using a good moisturiser on my legs and feet daily is helpful.

It's the bending (of back and knees) to reach the feet in the first place that is such a pain - lit and fig! I have just soaked mine for 15 minutes, hot water with Johnson's Aloe Vera baby oil. All soft and lovely now, but still painful. I feel as though I am standing on knife blades. Yuk.
Annie is right, constant care is a good thing. What about wearing ankle supports for a while? Would that ease any strain? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
thanks you to thought had it under control but never goes for long does it will try what you sugest valval0

Ditto Annie, they just bark like mad sometimes. I used gel heel supports from the podiatrist and also arch supports from them too. Perhaps your GP would refer you to see the podiatrist, if you don't already get to see one. They so have specialist muskulo skeletal pods, who can offer a range of things to help make things more comfortable and they know all their is to know about feet and bones and joints, they were good with me.
SBC do a leg gel that would be good for your feet too http://www.sbcgels.co.uk/gels.aspXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0
