Not sure how to describe this but sitting down at night and in bed i keep getting sort of pain under my heel, under foot. It seems strange because i am not putting weight on them. Its like i should have some marshmallow springy pads stuck on them to soothe them.
I wear proper footwear and it happens anytime, i havent been on some walk etc.

Does anyone have this and know what it is?

Hi oneday. I have been having this for months and its quite painful, especially when I get into bed at night. Its like a thumping pain. Was at the chiropodist and asked her if she knew what it was and she didnt. She did tell me to speak with GP. Next time I am at the GP I will ask. It used to only be occassionally but now its every day and its begining to really annoy me. Will let you know if I find out anything.
    Regards
    Trisha

Hello oneday, how miserable for you. I have noticed that over the years my feet have become increasingly flatter, to the extent now that I hardly have an instep. I too have heel pain, but mine is at the back of the heel and is related to my PA. marion1952, however, suggested that it could be something to do with the Achilles tendon or something called plantar fascitis. I also have pain in my tendons and yes, underneath my foot. I keep forgetting that I now have the interweb at my fingertips, so I'm off to google these and see if they are anything to do with what we are feeling! I will report back. DD

Right, plantar fascitis is caused by the over-use of the arch tendon in the foot. This is a broad band of thick tissue that runs from under the heel to the front of the foot. The pain is caused by the degeneration of the collagen tissue in the tendon, not inflammation as there are no inflammatory cells in it. Pain occurs under the heel and can run along the inside of the foot too. Does that sound like what you are experiencing? Strapping can help, but it might be worth visiting a physio or podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis, neither of which I am. DD

    hello fellow foot sufferers!!
um interesting......it is so hard to describe...i am used to describing all sorts of pain, as you get used to this over the years i.e. burning pains, sharp pains etc and i can usually describe well but this is so difficult to describe....
its as though, if i put my foot in a bucket of thick cream or the like i would be thinking arrh thats a relief, but i still cant describe it...
arrh...got it...its as though i have been jumping up and down on my heels on a hard pavement and they hurt..and like i could now do with some 4 inch sponges on my feet to relieve them!
    hope that makes sense.
Its nowhere near as bad as my back problem (which is why i joined this site way back)....the thing is i havent done anything like jumping or shop till i drop type thing....
but seeing the word degeneration..i thought yep i am falling to bits.
does this sound like the same of you two?

i dont know about the others but i recognise this well. some days i wish i could just take of me feet and put them in me pocket and carry on without them, not quiet sure how i would manage if i did do this but i wish i could, its so annoying and painful some days. my dr said it might be polyarthralgia but i only got as far as might.

not helpful i know but your not alone with this.x

    Hi Folks

Just to say that plantar fasciitis used to be known as 'Policeman's Heel' because (in the past) it was common in policemen who used to stand for long periods of time!

I have only had it (intermittently) since i developed RA in my feet 2 years ago - never had it before then - but I seem to recall a couple of other peeps who also suffer from it (also in combination with achilles tendonitis) - when they have flare ups of RA in their feet ...

    Best wishes

Hi, Ive got this too. Mines been DX as Plantar Fasciitis.
Ive been advised to get GP to refer me to physio so they can give me stretchers to wear in bed at night. They keep the tendon stretched so feet shouldnt be too painful to walk on in the morning when its at it worse. I also get cramp in the arch of my feet  very painful.
Foot problems are horrible as we need them so much & i dont really think about mine til they hurt.
Best to see your GP for a proper DX though & take it from there.

    Hi Oneday

I have been experience heel problems since my TKR. The physio
suggested I do the following exercises:

    (a) roll your foot on a rolling pin
    (b) scrunch toes in and out - I was surprised how stiff mine were.
    (c) try and pick up a pencil with toes

I've been doing these exercises and it seems to have helped. I also found ice packs helped. It only gets achy now if I over do things or wear flat shoes for prolonged periods.

    Hi everyone..
certainly lots of info to think about, thank you.
Feet hurt more when doing nothing....did bit of internet searching following your posts pointing me in the right direction and could be plantis thingy or also seen mention of loosing the cushioning of pads under the heels as we age!!
I already have orthotics off podiatrists which have helped with the hip pain i got, i think my feet lean inwards so they help.
As well as the arthur we all have surprised well not surprised but thinking another problem we all have.
The info and help i get on this site is more relevant and i really appreciate all your replies......
everyone keep me posted about yours etc....
I wont go rushing to drs just yet. I just couldnt make out what it was!...

    Hi

I've had pain under my heel since I had my TKR it is not as bad as it used to be.
I was told it was nothing to worry about when I went to see my consultant. The physiotherapist thought it was plantar facitis (not sure if I've spelt this right) and gave me some exercises to do. Roll foot on either a foot massager or rolling bin. Scrunch toes in and out. Try and pick up objects with toes ie a pen or pencil. I've been doing these exercises and it has helped.

Yes, the rolling stretches the offending tendon which does ease things, but I can't scrunch my toes - they're too inflamed. I have resorted to wearing a wine cooler jacket on each foot - v v cold but it does help. Then I stand up to put them back in the freezer, walk to the kitchen and voila! Hot, pink and inflamed again. One cannot win. DD
