Hi Marion, I asked about the hairdresser and was told that lying back wouldnt be harmful....just if it was a basin where you had to lean forward.
SPEEDY....I came out of hospital and was in the Metro Center {our very large shopping center} but I was on a mobility scooter......didnt buy much but what I did buy went into a front basket as I was buying it and I have a rucksack attached to the back of the scooter and people would help me transfer them {or do it for me} into the rucksack. But you have top be careful not to lean over or bend down....cant see bottom shelves LOL......but it got me out of the four walls. Peter did the grocery shopping.....I thi nk I would have ordered onl line if he hadnt been about.
    Love

Hi, Sorry I must have been typing this when the other answers came through LOL.
Speedy......did you ever think of using a small backpack {not a very small one like the kids use but not a hiking one} when I was first diagnosed with arthur it was advised I use something like that instead of a handbag and I've used that sort of thing since then....un less I want to be dressy LOL or am on my scooter {that doesnt work} I use one across my body then
    Just a few more suggestions.
    Love

    Hi Speedalong and Hileena

Thanks for the advice about the hairdresser.. that's reassuring.. I feel happy about going now...

I need to get my hair done AND the gardens cut back before my boss comes to see me the week after next! My next phone call is therefore to a gardener!

Hope you have a good day..

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Hileena,

I have a basket on the front of my hired scooter - but it is tiny - would fot a loaf of bread or two bottles of milk only!!! I have got a rucksack on the back of the chair ... that fits a carrier bag or so of shopping and I do most of my grocery shopping online. I tend to park the scooter in the foyer or just outside and then walk around my local shops. Once I can drive again I will experiment with the shopping centres that have motobility schemes ... might bump into Delboy!! I did debate wearing a smallish rucksack - but was worried I might twist too much putting it on and off and break the hip restrictions.

    Hi Speedy

So glad to see you have got your appointment brought forward at last. The 10 week wait for a 6 week appointment was a weird one eh! :?

Good to see you doing so well there and I hope they can lift the restrictions when you see them next Thursday. Good luck.

    take care ((( )))

Hi Speedy ...I suppose you will have to be careful for a while with a backpack...trying to remember how I used mine the first 6 weeks....dont think I did much.....had the big rucksack on the back of scooter and used a handbag across my body but as soon as I could I was back using the backpack

    Thanks Chris and Abbie.

Hileena - once restrictions are eased a rucksack would be a good idea ....

Hi Speedy, I find it great, both hands free.
I've just got my appointment through for another appointment with the consultant....September....presumably thats because of the other hip being done in Oct.
