Hi Sorry I've not been around for a while, but I've had my sister and her husband staying with us for a few days. Very nice and we enjoyed seeing them, but also tiring!
Just lately, I've been finding very hard to concentrate, even when reading and have a poor sort term memory. I'll read the same bit over several times in the paper and still feel lost. I find when I'm talking a word will slip my mind and I can't think of it for ages. It does come in the end, but the conversation has finished by then. I feel quite tired and I've taking tramadol slow release and amatryptilyne for pain and sleeping and wonder if they are partly to blame. I do normally have better nights now. I feel horrible when this happens and at 55, I wonder about early dementia! I think I have too much time on my hands!
Its like a fog or mist over my mind. I'm seeing my GP tomorrow, but don't want to mention it!!! love Sue
I just wondered if anyone else has had anything like this.
Love Sue xx

All the time. It's called arthritis, and is aided and abettted by humira, methotrexate, naproxen, sulphasalazine, omeprazole, prednisalone, docusate, co-codamol and the ocasional tramadol. What was the question? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Sue
I have the same problem :? even my son remarked on my forgetfulness.... now what was his name again
We are on heavy duty meds to manage living with the pain of arther as DD said.
Like you I also take Tramadol and Amatriptyline which do make me 'fuzzy headed'...... so it may be the drugs your on and not an early dementia.
Why not mention it to your doc if it's worrying you :?:

Hi Sue
Yes, I can identify with that!
Sometimes (a lot of the time actually) I just can't find/get the right word out.. my daughter is constantly finishing sentences for me.
I'm conscious I'm not as 'sharp' at work as I was, say, 10 years ago.. not sure how much is age and how much is due to drugs - I can't do much about age, but I do try to keep the drugs to a minimum..
It seemed to go worse when I was off work recently with my hip replacement ..
I will watch this thread with interest in case anyone has got a 'miracle cure.'
Best wishes

Hi Sue
it is worrying you, you have mentioned it before i think?
so if i was you i would ask the doc about it tomorrow.
since having arthur i have noticed i am alot more forgetful and im only 34 so it isnt my age, but i do take alot of meds and it definitely gets worse when i am worried about something, which is quite often.
it might put you mind at rest if you talk to your doc about it and then you wont worry anymore and have more space in there to remember stuff.
best wishes

Hi thank you for the replies, I just hate it when I can't remember the right word or the right name for someone, even worse is getting the name wrong! I even called my husband by someone elses name!!! :? Thats because I'd been reading something in the paper about him and I made a slip of the tonge!!!I have worried about it before but I don't honestly, remember writing about it!!!  I think I will mention it to the doctor, see what she says. Hi Sue
It is very annoying and frustrating. I think the main reason is that our bodies have to deal with so much pain and the effects of the medication. We don't realise how much energy and space this takes and the first thing that shuts down is our mind, as there are so many other physical systems that need to keep working to keep us alive.
Gosh, I think I have confused myself. But I would have a word with your GP as they might be able to help.
Have a rest, it sounds like you need one.

Hi Sue,
Move over flower cus I in the same boat! I did mention it to the doc and think maybe you should as I found it reassuring to have her tell me it was 'normal' when your body is being challenged by some kind of inflammation. (You get the inflammation as well I remember you saying?) She also said about the drugs I am on and one was tramadol... your on that too so for reassurance mention it at your next appointment with doc. You get on well with yours don't you and I wouldn't mind betting you get much the same answer as I got.
Really nice to bump into you again and glad you enjoyed your sisters visit. Luv and a (((( )))) Cris xx0 -
I've had the memory problem for years I doesn't seem to get any better but glad to say no worse. I have the problem of forgetting in two languages here in Spain :?0

Yes! And difficulty following the conversation in large groups of people - too tired!!0

Thank you for all the replies. I'm glad I'm not alone and if I can remember, I'll ask my GP tomorrow!

Hi Sue, I'm in the same boat. Between you me and the gate post I poured milk into the watering can last Thursday.
Flares, stress and pain make things even worse.
Oh and finding words will not come to me, erm seems to fill a lot of gaps these days :?
So you are not alone in this.

Hi Sue
Another one here! You are most definitely not alone with this memory thingy. I say all the time "whatsamecall it " when I cannot remember a name or word. I have been cheered by being told that if you cannot think of the word at the time but think of it later or even, much later you are not on the road to becoming forgetful where it may become a problem ...... I comfort myself with that thought.

Unloaded the car and master Skipper Boy and Gimpy leg came to help..... It stared raining so I speeded up and shut the car down...... got he chickens dinner and waited for mr Slips to come help but he didn't...... Put the chickens in, yelling for him... he didn't come.... threatened him...he didn't come... walked to the back field calling... no sign.... decided I had best go look for him so went back to the car and... there he was sat on the drivers seat dong the Chinese president look and locked inhe was confused and i couldn't have been wetter even if I had gone in the sea
Luv and a ((( ))) the forgetful one

Sue
I know exactly how you feel. I have been like this for the last year. I may start a conversation then forget what i was talking about half way through.
I was always very good at spelling, but now I have to keep thinking is that the way you spell it?
I also take a tablet then I cannot remember if I did take it. Hubby now gives me all my meds just to be safe. I was never like this before only since I have taken the meds. Sue do you read the information leaflet that comes with your meds?
We now keep them all in a folder and I find it is helpful.
I keep wondering if I have got something going wrong upstairs. Then I think it might be the pain coupled up with the painkillers that is doing it also taking Amytyps.
I know it is no use saying try not to think about it because you do. See your doctor and I really hope he/she can reassure you that you are ok and it is the meds.
Sending you some ((((()))) We are all here for you Sue.

I think that if one can sit and wonder if one's mind is going, then that's a good indication that it isn't. I went thro a phase, like trisher, of not being able to remember if I'd done my pills, so now I dispense them into a pills holder, seven days, four compartments per day, so I can see at a glance whether I have done them or not. If I remember to look, that is! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

OK, I did a gem earlier, and I hope this makes you laugh. I did!
On our top floor there is a laundry basket, for the exclusive use of The Husband. His shirts, socks and knickers are special. Not.
On the first floor we have a laundry basket in our bedroom, for my use. Unfortunately, being an untidy woman, it is stacked with clean clothes and old clothes plus the clothes I have just removed, so the lid doesn't open. Luckily for me, however:
on the ground floor we have our bathroom, complete with laundry basket, which we both use. So, earlier this afternoon I trooped into said bathroom for a wee, carrying a white Tshirt destined for the laundry basket. I flipped up the lid of the loo, and cheerfully flung (sorry, phlang) my Tshirt into said receptacle. Luckily, I realised my error and didn't carry on to wee in the laundry basket. Ho-hum. Stuff happens. DD
PS Our house, tho in the middle of our street, aint that grand. It is tall and narrow, and the stairs to the top floor are flaming impossible. He has to bring his laundry down. Result!Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Fab thread Sue and co ... now what was it about ...???
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

Having so many floors to a house I think I would get confused too.
Glad you realised in time.

Hi Woodbon,
I can so relate to your short term memory probs, I walk into rooms and forget why, I have to keep pen & paper handy to write things down, straight away or they are gone forever! My brain is always "whirring" trying to remember what it is I need to remember!
Its' so hard to concentrate, things don't happen one at a time and I can't "multitask" anymore, its' all too too much!
Thought I'd add my bit too so you don't feel the only one !
