My mom has recently met with a minor accident, and is not able to move her knee now. Doctors say that it is arthritis. Since she did not have any problem before that, I am surprised how it can be. Can this be possible?
Which specialist doctor should she see now? Rheumatologist? Ortho Surgeon? We are totally confused.
What excercises can she do to ease the pain?
Thanks for any advise.

Dear Lilymay
Thank you for your posting on the forum. An injury on a joint may lead to osteoarthritis though specific causes of osteoarthritis are hard to pin down. Your GP will be the main contact for treatment though if your mum’s mobility is severely affected, she may ask to see an orthopaedic specialist for further advice. Exercise is generally very good for osteoarthritis of the knee but she should ask her GP to refer her to a physiotherapist for exercises that would be specific to her.
Arthritis Research UK has information specifically for osteoarthritis of the knee that you can access on http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis_information/arthritis_types_and_symptoms/osteoarthritis_of_the_knee.aspx.
I hope that this information is helpful.
Best Wishes
