I was diagnosed in 2000 with severe ulcerative colitis which is an auto-immune bowel disease and at the same time my joint pain and stiffness began. I have sero negative polyarthritis as a consequence of the colitis and while I have had my bowel removed meaning no more colitis symptoms, the athritis is now here to stay. I was wondering if any one else developed arthritis alongside another auto immune disease and how their symptoms present and develop,
thanks x

    HI Spacey

Ive got an AID as well as osteochondritis dissecans if ileft knee since age of 18, now 42....Mine is called idiopathic urticaria and angioedema which basically means i get loads of rashes, weals and sometimes swellings all over body....
Its mainly under control with anto hist but it has its moments and flares when its mostly inconvenient.....
Not sure this is connected to OCD, nobody has said it is...

    Hi Spacey,

Its a bit rough isn't it? I have crohns and the pa came in behind it. They do say there might be another type as well but its a bit hard cus the oa has chucked out a fair bit of bone and its hard for them to see whats under it all.

I am so glad you have 'cured' the colitis (My brother has that one and I am lucky really to have the crohns I think)

There is a link between one kind of arthritis and IBD but for me the pa came in hot on its heels following a huge flare in 2003-04. I think its connected but it might just be once you have an autoimmune thing its like opening the door to the others?

I hope they are helping you bone wise though? Cris x

    Hi Spacey

I have PolyArthritis resulting from SLE (a form of Lupus).

Having now researched symptoms etc I believe that I encountered some symptoms of SLE first for a couple of years and then the PolyArthritis into the 2nd year.

Autoimmune certainly seems to be a case of once you've got one the door is open for others. I've have leaky gut (forget the medical name) since I can remember, psoriasis for 10 years, PsA for 4 years and ITP for 2 years-ish. They're all autoimmune. I wonder if I should start a sweep on what one I'll get next!
