I can't remember bad headaches with the sulpha, but I do remember having a raging thirst all the time & to always be drinking water whilst on them. Perhaps the two are linked? My hubby gets headaches if he has not drunk enough liquids during a day, so perhaps you could try upping your fluid intake a little and see if that helps?
does the drug leaflet you received with your medication mention headaches and when you should seek advice about them? If you are in any doubt then speak to a pharmacist for advice - in my experience they are the best people to ask about specific drug info. However, you might prefer to speak to the out of hours GP if your headache is severe.
hope you manage to get a bit of relief.
hugs

Hi i did at the start and now i only get them sporadically and not as bad dont know if it is sulpha or a combination of my other tablets or what but i know one of the side effects is headaches.
I know some painkillers can but depends on the type... if your worried talk to your rheumy or there should be a fact sheet they gave with them like wonky said.0 -
Hi psyart
Hope you are feeling better today and you have relief from the horrible headaches.
I can't answer your question I'm sorry as I don't take sulpha.
Take care

Hi psyart, how miserable. I had dreadful headaches on luflunomide, none with sulpha but headaches are listed as one of the more common reactions to sulph - I have a label on my sulph tub that provides info about the drug. If you are worried then contact your rheumatology nurse for a natter - it could well be that your body will adjust over time and the headaches will go. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

hi
im new to sulpha too, have been on it nearly 7wks now but havent had any headaches with it but do get thirsty,i was advised to drink plenty of water with it and so have followed the advice and so far no problems, headaches is a common side effect with sulpha but should ease when you body adjusts to the the drug.
ive got a rash which i think is from the sulpha but have stuck with it and will carry on with it until i see the rheumatologist on the 23rd of this month
take care, lucy x0 -
Hi
You can get headaches as you increase the dose, but rest assured they do settle down as your body adjusts to the drugs. I used to find that I had them first thing in the morning and then they would settle down a little bit. It lasted for a weeks as you get on to your dose.
It is horrible though, every sympathy

Hi Louise
I don't remember having headaches when on sulpha... but it was a long time ago and my memory's shaky!
Best to ask your doc or rheummy if it's an acceptable side effect; though if it's causing you to have daily headaches that can't be pleasant for you. :?
hope it eases up and that you start to see some benefit in the arther.
(((hugs))) back to you.

Hi Louise
I can't offer any advise but just wanted to call in and send a big hug or two (((( )))).
Really hope you soon feel some benefit from the sulpha if your dr. wants you to continue with it and that the headaches ease quickly.
take care

Hi Louise,
Oh flower not nice...I remember it well  Had a headache every day I took them but in the beginning it was a bad one for about month and then eased to just a dull ache till the next increase which went back to a dull ache quicker than initially.
I did have quite a reaction to them in the end but by then the dull ache wasn't deemed part of it.
I Hope it settles and going to go step up the belows though tis so wet out there the morning one will be cancelled.
Leaving you a coffee and a ((((( ))))) love Cris xx0 -
Hiya Louise,
Sorry to hear you are suffering. Lynn's right - I did have some humdinger headaches in the early days (if my memory serves me right, they were around the week 3/4 mark). Felt as if my head was about to explode! Persevere if you can....I've now been on the sulpha for 10 months and rarely (eek, am I tempting fate here?) have headaches. Constant colds, yes....but no headaches!
I remember on my worst headache, I decided to miss one sulpha dose.....to let my body just deal with the head pain and it seemed to do the trick but you might want to check with someone more qualified than me before you try that - I don't want blamed for anything!

Hi Louise
I experienced shocking headaches and nausea when I first starting taking Sulpha and I nearly gave up with it, but once I got up to full-dose and got used to them I had no problems at all. So hopefully the headaches will subside once you get to used to it.
Thinking of you.
