It may seem a silly question (and hope it doesn't cause too much debate)!! :???:
Have OA in my left ankle and have occasion recourse to using a walking stick.
Do I hold the stick in my left hand or the right? :?:

The opposite side to the painful one. So, in your case, hold it in the right hand and bring the stick forward as you bring your painful left ankle forward to give it some support.
I'm surprised you've not been shown how to tho'. if you've just bought your own stick it is important to have it the right height.
Also to know how to tackle steps.

Your hand, when holding the stick, should be level with, or just above, your hip - that means that the stick is at the right height for you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
