Hi

sorry, I've not been around for a while. The site locked me out and I've had to re-register.

I have OA in my wrist. On Friday I had a cortisone injection, i was a bit anxious about it but it wasn't too bad.

It was explained to me that my wrist would probably feel worse for a few days. Fair enough, but it's now day 5 and it's still bad!

do you think it hasn't worked or do i just have to give it some more time?

    Hi RoseBud,

I am new to all this so my info is prob not accurate..
I am aware from the injection i had that it was a slow release.. and i have heard that it can take a while to get in to your system..
5 days i think is a bit too early to think it is not working..
My advice would be give it till maybe this time next week and see how you are, if no improvement then see your GP..
Hope you feel better soon.. hopefully someone will be able to come along soon and offer you some more advice...

    Hi Rosebud
I too have OA in my wrist - it can be very painful, I have not had the cortisone injection - but my sister has(in her shoulder) and she has not had much of a result. The GP did tell her though that if she had not benefitted after 2 weeks to go back for another as it depends on eactly where the injection is given on the outcome of the results.

    Thanks for the input!

The doc didn't say that it was slow release, just that it would stay there for around 3 weeks and I should feel the benefit after a week? I just thought that as it's day 5 I would have been starting to feel some improvement :(

    Hi Rosebud

I had a steroid injection in my toe (ouch!) and was told the pain would get worse before it improved and it was suggested to me to start to take any pain relief pills that I usually took. He was absolutely right, the pain was awful before it got much better. It took exactly one week, ie 7 days before I felt the benefit. I hope you do too when the 7 days are up.

    Luv

Hi Rosebud, I would give it a bit longer before giving up.. It may also not work at all. We are all different as you know. I had both knees done in November and in less than a week they felt great, only lasted a month though but I wasn't complaining. I had a slow release bunch of then done in my knees and spine on 7th of january, was told they may take a few weeks to work, so far, nothing, knees feel worse and spine no better. It may happen, but I ain't holding mi breath

Hope you get some relief from yours in the next couple of days..

    Be well...

They take time to be effective. Five days is, possibly, not long enough - I hope you were able to rest your wrist for a good long while after it was first done - I was told when my knees and ankle were done to rest the joints for at least 48 hours, to give the stuff time to sink in properly. I did so (I am basically an obedient patient) but they never really worked, three days of slightly less pain was the best result I ever achieved. We all vary so much in our responses to these things - let's hope yours does start to work, and soon. I wish you well. DD

It definitley took a while for the steroid injections to kick in with me. I remember the following few days being pretty bad. So, hang in there and wait. If it's still not improving in a while, I think it would be wise to make a GP appt. All the best. x

    thanks again.

i suppose I'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself. I've had a few days off work and could really have done to get some stuff sorted out in the house. It's falling to pieces round my ears.

it wasn't mentioned about rest. I probably overdid stuff the first couple of days as I had some local aneasthetic injected as well so it didn't feel too bad.

hopefully I'll see an improvement at the end of the week!
