Hello, I have had a mobility scooter for approx 4 years but for reasons I will not bore you with I have only used it twice. However, I top up the battery every month because the instructions warn you that you could damage it if you do not. This only takes 2 minutes approx for the battery light to turn from red to green as it has hardly been used. However the last time I did this it had not turned from red to green after 15 minutes and the battery charger felt hot. Has anyone any experience of this and could they give me any advice. Thank you

No advice but will watch with interest as I have similar problems with the charger (Mark 2) for my bath lift. Mark 1 was exactly the same and packed in rather than lift me out of the bath.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi, it's nice to meet you. I cannot help with the scooter bit as I don't have one but all chargers do get warm: the one for my mobile does, the laptop and my AA battery charger all heat up as do those for the phone handsets around the house, so I reckon that bit is par for the course. DD

    Hi there

I think perhaps you may need new batteries. I know you have kept your scooter charged but batteries like to be charged then run flat.

I am sure I am right but I will ask my oh when he comes home from work and If he can give you any more addvice I will post later this evening.

    Hi there

Just been speaking to oh on phone and he says you could get them tested to make sure they are still working. The mobility shop may be able to help you with that if you haven't got a battery tester yourself.

I have bought batteries for my scooter from a battery specialist as mobility shops are far more expensive.

Like dachshund my scooter is plugged in over night for the next day.
I also use an elec wheel chair in the house and that is also charged overnight.

I hope you get sorted soon

In reply to the person who asked me what sort of battery it is, I am not technical enough to know. I just know it is for a shoprider - cameo.
What is a battery tester that one of you mentioned. I have one of those small ones for testing AA batteries but presumably it will be something else for something as big as a mobility scotter?
I have had battery rechargers such as my lap top one get warm but this one was positively hot.
Any way thank you all for your help and kindness.

thank you for all replies to my request regarding mobility scooter battery problem. My brother in law tested it and said it has 25% on which he says is good. When I tried it on the scooter it came up 95% charged which I assume it means that the light on the battery charger is not working i.e not changing from red to green when charged but at least it proves I do not need to buy a new battery. bye romeathome

That is good news that you don't have to purchase a new battery.

    Hi
Has your brother in law or any other handy person you might have about any idea what to do about the light.....Its great you dont have to buy a new battery but it is nice to know how much battery you have left and when to to stop or turn around......or are you still not using it? I was told that it was better to run a battery down {occasionally} and then top it up but I dont know :lol: At least the batter is working......maybe just a new bulb is need? I havent a clue what I'm talking about as no doubt you have gathered :lol::lol::lol:

I recently had a problem with my battery and got a replacement from here: http://www.blueboxbatteries.co.uk/search.asp?types=Consumer+Batteries+>+Mobility+Scooter+Batteries.

I'd highly recommend them to anyone that needs a replacement.
