Shin pain

Hello, I am new to the forum.
I was diagnosed with OA in both hips in Dec and I am waiting for a referral to see a specialist. My GP has said I will need a hip replacement at some point and probably sooner rather than later because the mobility of my right hip is very poor. I am currently having physio.
I was taking Naproxen twice a day together with Omeprazol but had to stop because of stomach problems. I am now taking just codeine and paracetemol and have problems sleeping, waking continually throughout the night. My latest symptom is a burning pain down my right shin - is this likely to be connected to my hip problem and what can be done about it?
I have also just been diagnosed with OA in my feet and I am due to have an MRI on my foot next Tues.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

    Dear Barabrith

Hello, A warm welcome to the forum from all of us here on the helplines. We are not medically trained and would always say that any symptom you are experiencing is checked out with your GP. It may also be helpful to have a medication review with them to see if the current medication you are taking is working for you in managing your pain. We have lots of information that may be helpful to you in managing your arthritis. Our ‘Living with osteoarthritis’ booklet that you can access on the link http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Listedbytype/Booklets/main_content/OAbooklet2011.pdf has information about managing this condition. We have factsheets on osteoarthritis of the foot on the link http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Listedbytype/Factsheets/main_content/OAfootfactsheetOct10.pdf and on osteoarthritis of the hip on the link http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Listedbytype/Factsheets/main_content/OAhipfactsheetJune2011.pdf
You are also very welcome to call us on the freephone Helplines number on 0808 800 4050 (10am – 4pm, weekdays). I hope that this reply has been helpful to you.

    Best Wishes
    Dawn
