I found this forum couple of weeks ago when I was searching for info on my new knee,and was concerned I wasn’t progressing, it’s a real font of knowledge and thought provoking – thank you, but as new newbie I don’t understand some of the language could someone post an idiots guide to some of the short cuts I understand TKR but the heck is ESA etc.

    Anything with a second A refers to an arthritis, osteo, rheumatoid, palendromic, psoriatic etc, e.g. RA.

    AS = ankylosing spondylitis
    op = operation
    TKR = total knee replacement
    THR = total hip replacement
    GA = general anasethetic
    BB = blue badge
    cocos = cocodamol pain relief
    meth = methotrexate
    lef = leflunomide
    sulph = sulphasalazine - all 3 are common treatments for an auto-immune arthrtitis

    There are some more but my brain isn't functioning. I think there was a reasonably complete list of these things, I'll dig about and see if I can find it and bounce it back to the top. DD

    I still dont have a clue when people mention NSAIDS my brain just dont process that and biologics??
    Means im not as ill as others though and for that im thankful..

    NSAID....Non steroid anti inflamms....not sure about the other

    Biologics are treatments used by those with auto-immune arthritis. I think they are different to the anti TNF varieties but, as I am currently working with a brain consisting of porridge, don't quote me on that. :oops: DD

    Hi everyone :)

    'Biologics' is short for 'biological agents', e.g. anti-TNF and b-cell therapies.

    Anti-Tumour Necrosis Factor meds include etanercept/Enbrel, adalimumab/Humira, infliximab/Remicade; rituximab/MabThera is an example of a b-cell therapy.

    There may be others -- these are just the ones I learned to unsettle my rheumatologist. It worked :lol:
