I've been married for 34 happy year & never once taken my wedding ring off, But at the weekend while i was in bed the pain in my finger was awful,I turned on my bedside light & saw my finger had turned blue, I tried all different ways to get my wedding ring off, but it wouldn't budge, ended up with my daughter plastering cream, soap everything to get it off, which we did eventually, I had the same trouble with my right hand the week before so removed that ring, but not wearing my wedding ring I feel so strange, I know it sounds stupid but I feel quite upset  even though the swelling seems to have gone down slightly, I just cant get my ring back on,do you think I will have to have my ring adjusted or will it go back to normal :? Sue xx

Oh Sue, how horrid. :( I rarely wear mine now because my fingers swell and shrink but I'm worried it will get stuck and have to be cut off. I know that some ladies on here have had to have their rings cut off and it is a very upsetting thing to happen. Please don't put it back on Sue, there are ways to still 'wear' it (on a chain or pretty ribbon for example) and maybe Mr QF would be willing to buy you another, larger-sized ring to wear from now on. Mr DD's got stuck yesterday, like with you it was a real struggle to remove it (lick and soap were involved). DD

I have been unable to wear my wedding and engagement ring for 5 years now, and I was so sad to be unable to. A couple of years ago we went to the jewellry quarter and hubby bought a beautiful necklace which I wear as a substitute.

Every time I touch it, I remember him and am happy. :D

P.s I have had my rings resized but it didn't work,I had to keep taking them off due to swelling and was worried I would lose them.

    Oh Sue
I do understand how you are feeling, I had to take my wedding and engagement rings off after 43 years, at the min I do have them on a chain, not sure what I am going to do, I may ask for new wedding ring but it wont be the same.
I do hope you can have it re-sized, I couldn't do that with mine.
    Love

I know exactly how you feel Sue. My finger has deformed around my wedding ring and I would have to have it cut off now if I needed to remove it. If that happened I would choose not to wear one as I'd feel if it was stretched it wouldn't be the same as when we bought it. I also wouldn't want a brand new one as it wouldn't have the same mileage on it

In saying that, that's just my choice and we're all different.

    Luv,
    Love, Legs x

    Hi Sue,
It's a real quandry. Unfortunately I had to have mine cut off when my finger got really swollen and deformed. My husband bought me a bigger one which I wear with thankfulness, it was given with the same love as the original and continues to symbolise the precious partnership that sustains us both. Hope that doesn't sound too yuk!!!! What I mean is it's just a ring, a symbol of all that you share which can't be dented or damaged if you have to have it replaced. Hope that you're fingers settle down soon.

    Hello Sue

I had to have my wedding, engagement and eternity rings cut off a couple of years ago and it upset me hugely so I do understand - and I am so pleased that you were able to get yours off without having them cut.

Like you, I feel bereft without them, and am planning to buy a nice chain to put them on so I can wear them round my neck instead. Giving the propensity of arthritic fingers to swell up and go down again (hopefully) with alarming frequency, I would be reluctant to have mine resized.

I don't know really what to do, because I agree with most things said  my daughter Say's have it resized, but I don't know, hubby would buy me a new one, but wait for it( you are going to think I have a screw loose) a new ring wouldn't have been blessed   I KNOW,I KNOW I'm daft :? I tried to put my ring on again today & there is no way it will fit again on my finger

I haven't been able to wear mine for years. I have a bit of a soft spot for it but I couldn't stand having it round my neck.

What about a new ring and getting it blessed? Maybe you could renew your marriage vows at the same time? You could still wear the original ring on a smaller finger if you liked.

My parents were married for 54 years and regularly bought each other new rings throughout that time. Every one was blessed by the local vicar, my Ma wore at least three all at the same time! DD

Did they DD I think that's lovely  I thought my wedding ring fitted my little finger, but every time I wash my hands it falls off :( so I had better not wear it on that finger when going out in case I loose it, that would make things worse, It would mean a gr8 deal to me having a new ring blessed, even though I don't go to church regularly eg only weddings & funerals, thank you DD

I totally agree with you my wedding ring has been enlarged 3 times now and i will continue doing so as this original ring is so very important to me, my engagment ring wont even fit the top half of my little finger so have given up on that one but will pass it on to my daughter one day, my nans engagment ring was large due to OA so am wearing that one as she died in 88 it still means so very much to me and nans engagment ring is in place of my engagment ring , my signet ring I have had since age 10 ( I'm 51 now ) nan brought me is on a thick chain around my neck, I have also had 2 other eternity rings enlarged when I had my wedding ring done last time, hopefully it will be the last time now

Hi queenfan, I had to have my wedding ring cut off at A&E it was very distressing as I feel naked without it on. I had already had the ring sized up twice. My OH was looking at extending rings while we where on holiday as something that symbolized my marriage. To me that's all I want. It's silly but it means alot to me to have something that show's your married. But please be careful if you do wear another ring, it took 3 nurses 2hrs or slightly more to get my rings off and the thought that I could loose my finger was seriously there. Think is it worth having a piece of jewellary on your finger that could cause you to loose your finger.
