You are doing fantastically well and an inspiration to us all. I also need to lose a couple of stone, I don't mind being weighed but I don't like being measured. Last time that happened I pulled my waist in so much my boobs doubled in size .
Keep up the good work.

Thanks Janet
I know what you mean about being measured. It's a bit embarrassing, especially as I'm pear-shaped  But it wasn't too bad-just the measurement around my body from my navel, and I didn't breath in ( honest) I was told the measurement in metric, which doesn't mean much to me, so I haven't bothered to convert it into inches. Ignorance is bliss
We're going to be weighed and measured again in 5weeks time, so there isn't too much emphasis on constantly being weighed.
I started my food diary this morning, and it's having an effect on me already. I didn't have a biscuit with my coffee mid-morning, which I would normally have done, because I didn't want to write it down in the diary.0 -
Gosh, you're better than me: I'd have eaten the biccy and not written it down. This is all going very well, isn't it? Well done to you, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing a picture of the newly svelte Mrs Lawson! DD (who will be eating sushi for lunch and, as a reward for being good, an iced, spiced bun from M&S.)Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

It is going well at the moment, DD, but it's very early days yet. The tutor on the course yesterday said that he didn't believe in going on special diets, but he wants to show us how to contol what we eat so that we have a healthy diet for life.
He said that there's no point in denying yourself some treats like your iced bun because it would only make you crave for them. It's OK to have a treat every now and then, but not every day. Sushi would be a very healthy lunch, I imagine.
Off to the gym now, and aqua-aerobics this evening :!:0 -
hope all goes well and you feel good at the end of the 12 weeks.Stay positive always👍xx0

we had kfc as treat today was lovely but has salmon sandwiches for tea with cuecumber just to balance will have fruit later valval0

I went to the aqua-aerobics, but found it a bit tough on my knees despite being in the water. There was rather a lot of jumping up and down, so I had to cheat a bit when I felt the pain. I did enjoy being in the water though, so I think I will stick to swimming in future.0
-
they should have told you only to do what you can comphy glad you enjoyed the water valval0
-
They did warn me that the aqua might put a bit of stress on my knees, but I wanted to give it a try.
I overdid things on Tuesday as I went to the gym in the morning, then walked the dog, and then went to aqua-aerobics in the evening ( asking for trouble  )
I've now booked to go to the chair exercises next week, so that should be OK on the knees.0 -
It's a shame about the Aqua-Aerobics, Joan. On a few occasions I've had hydrotherapy for my knees and found it really helpful. In fact, everyone in the ward wanted it, it was so good. But it did consist of some quite basic stuff and obviously tailored to my needs. I suppose in a large class it's hard to work out what will help and what will hinder. You're doing very well overall though. Keep going. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks SW. I have done aqua-aerobics in the past, but I don't think the instructor at this class was very good. I went swimming this morning, and found that far more enjoyable, so I will stick to that.0

joan you are doing great it is a matter of trial and error as you know it can change from dad to day what we can and cant manage always drives me nuts but it one of those things we have to roll with and take each day as it comes keep going bet you feel so much better in your self valval0

Wow! I need to find a scheme like this. I sounds wonderful. One of the things I lack is an exercise routine. I'm too self conscious to go to the gym by myself and I wouldn't know which bits of equipment would be suited to my mobility problems, but if I had someone with me I would feel a lot better. I think I will ask my gp about it. There must be something similar in Sheffield.
Thanks for posting about your efforts, hope you have lots of success!

My friend was told that, doing the breast stroke is more strain on the knees than the crawl.
Do you breast stroke or crawl?
Keep up the good work, and the very best of luck.

Hi Kat
In the Derbyshire scheme I'm taking part in, you can ask to have a ''Health Champion'' ie. someone who volunteers to support and 'buddy' you to attend sessions to help build your confidence. Perhaps there is something like that in Sheffield too, so I would ask your GP. I think that lots of areas must have similar schemes.
I felt self-conscious the first time I went in the gym, but the instructor was very kind and patient with me. She explained how all the exercise machines work, and then she supervised me round all the ones which I can safely use. I have my exercise routine written down clearly in case I forget, and there is always an instructor present in the gym.0 -

I can't do crawl, so have no option but to do breast stroke or back stroke. I thought that flexing my knees to do the breast stroke would hurt, but I've been pleasantly surprised. I do feel it pull a little, but not enough to stop me. I went swimming this morning and did about ten or more lengths of the pool without difficulty.
Thanks for your good luck wishes, Arfa. I am determined to keep up the good work as I feel so much better already. My energy and stamina levels are much improved.0
