Ana positive in pregnancy

Hi,

Im wanting to try for a family next year which my doctor said was fine at my last appointment with my meds for JIA but i've received a letter to say he wants me to do a blood test to check if i am ANA positive before we start trying. I was wondering wether anyone here has had to do the same and if so was there any problems?

    Im ANA +ve but weekly. Loads of people are ANA +ve it doesnt necessarily mean anything. So it depends why they are doing it i suppose. Im not sure why they would be doing it? As usually theyd only do it if lookng for lupus or something? maybe someone else will shed some light.

    Thanks lizzy, he said it was a precaution and normal to test for this, i just wish he would have talked to me about it at the appointment instead of sending me this letter but i suppose i'll just have to talk to him about this next time.

    I can't help with your question but, when in doubt, I find my GP is a good source of info. Maybe someone else'll be around here soon though it tends to be a bit quiet at weekends.
    If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    A positive ANA can be normal or indicative of a number of things. I would imagine he is testing in case of Lupus. I wonder though if he means to do further tests if positive in case of Hughes Syndrome/Anti phosphilid syndrome. Its a sticky blood which can cause miscarriage or growth problems in pregnancy.

    I think you need to speak to him to understand why he wants to do this so you have all the info.
