    Hi
My Mum had hers yesterday and was told to ring her GP after a week to see if report back and if it was she has to make an appointment to speak to GP. Was yours ordered by your GP?

i think the results will be sent on to your GP but I don't know how quickly. It probably varies from one area to another. You can always ring reception. They can tell you if they've got them and, if not, how soon they're likely to.

My MRI results always go the rheumatologist and I have waited for up to six weeks to see her and get them. I always reasoned that no news was good news and that if summat was not right they would summon me sooner. My GP has never had them, probably because she has never ordered one on my behalf. DD

Mine also went straight to the rheumatologist and was discussed on my next visit, think it was about 8 weeks from mri to rheumy appointment.

I'd ring your consultant's secretary and ask if it were me. No harm in asking is there?
    Good luck.

As the others say I suspect there is no standard answer - when I have had MRIs the message has always been that they will be discussed at the next appt with whichever consultant requested them (in my area GPs can't request MRIs directly). But I agree with the other comments that there is no harm in phoning the consultant's secretary for an idea of timescale.

I know that waiting is not nice though and really hope you get your results soon.

    Good luck for the results.

I had my MRI done on the 26th September and my Rheumatologists appt is on the 28th November, where I'll get the results.

I wouldn't trust anyone but the Rheumy to give me the results tbh. Not even my GP.

Hello Wendy. Well you seem to making some progress in getting your results. The outcome sounds very familiar as that is my problem too. Shall be interested to know what they recommend for you. I've had physio, hydro-therapy etc and been to the Pain Clinic, but at the last visit to my GP she just said it is a question of taking the pain-killers(?) and doing what I can.

The 'experts' all recommend excercise but when your back is affected, and guess the same applies with anyone who has knees, ankles etc affected - with limited painful mobility that is extremely difficult and is virtually impossible to do so. I find that the more I walk (and I can only walk very short distances) the more pain I get and eventually just have to sit down which then eases it off a little. I should love to be able to walk further than I can but the pain just prevents me doing so.

I do hope they will be able to help you, Wendy. I've had to do quite a lot of 'kicking and screaming' to try and get things sorted and I think it is true that some GP's are more interested in arthritis problems than some others are.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Beryl.

Will do Beryl. Physio are gobsmacked as they thought the results of MRI were final so they cant see me now until MRI is done and results are back. I walk in the house but use a mobility scooter to go shopping as like you I just cant walk due to pain. The physio told me its the discs bulging thats causing this as its hitting nerves and I will have flare ups due to it. So its wait and see

Have you tried 'exercises' as opposed to 'exercise', Beryl? The trouble is, when a bit of us hurts, we sub-consciously, alter how we stand, walk etc to make life easier for that bit but, over time, the muscles we've stopped using fall asleep and that makes everything worse as this causes other problems.

Walking isn't always the answer. Sometimes it's a matter of strengthening the muscles we've learnt to avoid using and it can mean that more will be achieved by exercises than by just walking. I have to exercise every day and, when I come in from the supermarket with my legs feeling ready to drop off, that's when I need to do the exercises  to stretch the saggy muscles.

Have a look at AC's booklet on them but, better still, ask to see a physio and be given some tailored to your needs. http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/Search/search_results_page_view?SearchableText=back+exercises (2nd down on left menu.)

    Hi

Just wanted to support what SW has said about exercises. I have a sheet of exercises from the Arthritis Care Challenging Pain course which I went on in August. They are all done sitting down. I particularly use these if I can't do anything else. The main thing, of course, is to get as much control as possible over the pain. Otherwise, moving can be torture.

Exercises need to be done to avoid nerves getting trapped as I have the bulges in discs this is what is happening and causing a lot of pain

    UPDATE

Still no letter and GP's secretary has been leaving voicemails on Consultants secretary's answer machine with no response so she is now going to write to them and ask why this letter has not been received and when this MRI will be done. Hate complaining but with xmas round the corner and then pain I am experiencing and still working full time through it , its a nightmare, luckily my employer is allowing homeworking but I know they will want me back in office soon.

Hi Wendy. Sorry you are having a bit of a tough time and do hope you can get appointment sorted out. With regard to what sticky said, I agree that exercises can help (or should do). However, I do the exercises I was given every morning before getting out of bed, but it doesn't alleviate the pain which gets worse as soon as I start moving around or walking.

Hope things will settle down for you soon. Beryl ((()))

    Update

Confirmation from physio even though I left loads of messages with reum dept but never mind, scan was missing SI joints so they were sent over and thankfully they are fine so its discharge from physio but pain clinic and back care course to go on, basically its self management with OA of the spine and learning how to deal with flare ups with bulging discs, but at least I know now, so its meds and exercise until things worsen I suppose. The joys but it could have been a lot worse listening to some poor folk on here.

Well, at least you know where you stand, Wendy, but what a kerfuffle! I hope the meds and exercises will keep your back in 'workable' nick for a long time.
