Was this really me?

.........a young woman of 22, tall and slim, in her wedding dress which had taken her six weeks of meticulous sewing to make, walking from the house on the arm of her Dad. They only had to a very short distance to walk as the house was on Church Corner, just across the road from the church. She felt a little nervous, but friends and neighbours from the village waved to her as she walked by, making her feel like royalty for that one special day.
It was December 28th, on a very cold frosty day; everything was white over, making the church look like a beautiful scene from a Christmas card. Just as she approached the church, the sun came out, adding its wintry glow to the day. Her Dad squeezed her hand as they got to the door, the organ began to play, and slowly she walked down the aisle towards her future husband.
As she stood by his side, the bridegroom turned towards her, smiled and said, "Hello, you look lovely". Suddenly, the air around them seemed to be filled with whisky fumes from his breath, and she hoped that the vicar wouldn't notice. Later she discovered that the best man had brought along a hip-flask full of whisky to give the groom Dutch courage. As the bride was a little late, he had drunk rather a lot by the time she arrived.
All this happened in 1965 and the bride was me, so yesterday was our 47th wedding anniversary.
My husband still jokes with me that he only went through with the wedding because he was drunk at the time and didn't know what he was doing
Anyway, he's had 47 years to change his mind but he's still here

Congratulations to our Joan.
That is such a long time. I do not believe for one minute that he was that drunk he did not know what he was doing. Drunk or not, there was not doubt in his mind, he wished to marry you.
Elna xThe happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
