Hi All, been a while since I posted but I have been a regular "lurker."
Some advice would be a great help please....
Went onto meth in October and have had few side effects bar recurrent mouth ulcers, which folic acid every day didn't help. Joints were good though.
Around Christmas I developed a cough, so mentioned it to my Rhumey nurse who advised me to stop the meth. That was 4 weeks ago and the cough has got worse (seen my GP who sent me for an x-ray, blood tests and gave me antibiotics for a week that had no effect). Joints are fine though and no mouth ulcers
I am just taking Naproxin and omezopral now.
My question is how long does the meth take to leave the body? I know it can take up to 12 weeks to work, does it take that long to work it's way out and could the cough still be a hangover from meth? I am expecting the joint pain any day.
Thanks,
Mark.

Hello again, Mark. I’m glad your joints have been good but sorry about the cough. Unfortunately, I think you really need to get back both to your GP and rheumatology nurse on this one.
If the GP gave you antibios and a chest x-ray, he presumably sounded your chest out first and decided there was something not quite right. It might need a second course to shift whatever it is. (I write as one who has just had to miss my meth for 5 weeks and had 2 lots of antibios).
What to do re the meth is up to your rheumatology team. I must say, after 5 weeks off mine, I was glad to get back on it. I was functioning OK but losing movement ‘round the edges’. However, you don’t want to end up back at square one, do you? Get the professionals in on this one.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Mark, I had problems on Mtx and the last time I took it was when I developed a chest infection that took 4 lots of antibiotics to clear it up. Maybe, as Sticky says, you need another course but you need to speak to your gp and rheumy in any case.
I think it takes quite a few weeks to leave your body, hence infections taking longer to clear up. To be honest, I can't remember exactly as it's been a while since I was on it. I couldn't tolerate it but plenty of people do.0
