leg pain wakes me up

Does anyone have any idea how to prevent severe leg pain in the middle of the night? I go to bed and fall asleep with no pain easily enough but every darned night the pain in my left leg wakes me up and I have to lie there, half asleep, and do my back stretches in bed until the pain goes :shock: If I lie on my back it doesn't happen anywhere near as much but I automatically sleep in the foetal position. the leg pain totally disappeared for about a year but now it's back. Just one leg and buttock but the pain is really bad. Thanks.

Hi Sarah
Have you had any one check this for you, I have sciatica..and two bad hips one being replaced in just over a weeks time..
But the pain from the sciatic nerve is awful..I was due to have more back injections for it but I will have to put it back because of the hip...you see if you can get referred to a pain clinic..or a back specialist who should do an MRI to see whats going on...I feel for you it is awful pain..

Hi Barbara, well I was referred to a Pain Management clinic three years ago because of this same pain that kept waking me up even way back then but the consultant I saw wasn't very informative or that pleasant really. He just told me I could have an injection in his clinic but I couldn't have any breakfast the day I came in for it. No-one explained why this was the case. I telephoned the clinic several times when I got home but no-one knew why the injection warranted no breakfast. They just said it was their policy. Even my own gp didn't know. I assumed it was because I'd feel woozy after it and because I have abig phobia about medication wooziness I cancelled the appointment. Did you feel out-of-it after your injection?

I get the pain in legs and hips in the middle of the night that wakes me as well. I automatically sleep in foetal position as well no matter how I try and sleep straight legged I wake up in foetal position! I just end up taking my oro-morph and doing word searches or reading on my kindle until I feel sleepy again. I hope you can find some pain meds or another way to get past this as I know it is horrible!

I go to sleep in pain and frequently wake but as everything from the waist down is shot with arthritis I guess it's hardly surprising.

I take two cocos at bedtime and sleep with a pillow between my legs (I'm a side-sleeper) as that helps to support my upper leg and ease the pressure on the bone growths on either side of my knees. Pain cannot be prevented but it can be subdued. DD

I had it done under X ray...so you do have to fast, not sure why Its might be because they inject anesthetic in the back before the injections ....I was awake so wasn't at all woozy they keep you there for an hour then let you go home but someone has to pick you up...hope this helps...just to add the MRI was to see were the bulge was in the disc...this presses on the nerve x

Barbara was that painful because it certainly sounds it! An xray wasn't even mentioned so where on earth they were going o inject goodness only knows.......
