Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with itching as I have since yesterday started experiencing bad itching mostly on top of my hands and arms but other places too.I had my Hydroxy increased on Thursday and wondered if this could be why as I have not experienced this before. It is constant and i have tried to run savlon on to try to relieve it a bit but it has not helped.Would it be best to ring Rhuematology again or is there any other suggestions as I don't want to be a pain and ring them un-necessary if it can be avoided as it is now driving me mad.

Savlon is an antiseptic cream so it's OK for bites and grazes but I doubt it would help with itching. Have you read through the drugs leaflets? If one of those mentions itching then maybe you'll have found the culprit. Have a word with your pharmacist, they might be able to advise. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Ah yes. Mr SW is of the persuasion that Savlon is the answer to anything skin-related. It's not but the pharmacist would, as DD says, be a good first port of call.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Luckily for me I never had any itching on this, but I do know that itching scratching then itching is not good so definitely recommend a chat to the pharmacists for advice

I tried some Piriton in the end and so far it has eased so I will see if it returns I think if so maybe it will be worth chatting to my pharmacist or GP thankyou all.0

That would indicate that it's some form of allergic reaction - have you changed anything lately? Been gardening and brushed against some plant or other? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Not at all it only started yesterday evening the only change I could think of was the change to my Hydroxy. I checked on both my Meth and Hydroxy and both say itching under the less common side effects.I suffer from excema occassionally and have had this before at back of my legs but rare and savlon relieved it but not this time so I doubt it was that,so maybe some form of allergy,I will see if it continues to come back at the moment I have some relief.0

Hi Shandy, I take Hydroxychloride and in the booklet they give you when you are prescribed it, it says one of the side effects is itching. I do get itching from time to time and use cortisone cream to ease it. I have had my dose increased recently and the itching has started again for me. It's just one of the things you have to live with having Arther in your life!0

Thankyou for that I was quite sure also that it was the increase as I have never had any side effects from Hydroxy till now.I must be one of the lucky ones it seems.Do you get that cream on prescription or can it be brought over the counter?0

If you ask the pharmacist about your itching he'll be able to tell you whether or not you should go for the the steroid cream, something else or check it out with the doc. I know steroid creams, like much else, are available over the counter in the USA but I can't remember what the situation is here. I do know they should be used sparingly.
I don't think it's so much that you have, up to now, been 'one of the lucky ones' with hydroxy as I think it's one of the gentler DMARDS with fewest side effects. I think it's more a case of your being unlucky now if it is that that's the cause. I hope it's not the culprit if it's helping. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
