I can beat that - we have a 12 year old packet of breadcrumbs. They were bought by Mr DD and never used. Due to lack of storage in our itchen I am more vigilant now but some of my dried herbs are a couple of years old - I use 'em though. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Out of date? Sorry, you've lost me
Perishables are one thing but usually anything in a tin or packet that hasn't actually walked off of its own accord, or set into concrete or liquified, is considered usable in this household.
Just chuck it in the cauldron, mig.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Im with SW some of the things in my cupboard must be well out of date but if it looks and smells ok then it gets used...mind you last years I did throw some spices..not very good with age....tell you what to be aware of tinned meat...we had a tin of cornbeef..still well in date and when we opened it ...it was grey.... :shock:Love

I was going to do some tuna and onion the other day, I knew I had an un opened jar of mayonnaise so got it out of the cupboard and noticed it was dated 2010, it did look yuk so it had to go, I soon filled the space though.
I went through all my herbs and spices a couple of weeks ago, one of them was dated 2007!!Numps x

Ok, I can easily win this game!
I have a small metal tin with two pieces of mummified ginger that was from my grandmother's kitchen in the 1920's, and a cardboard cornstarch container from her kitchen also. Creepy isn't it?
I don't throw them out because I like having something from her kitchen all that time ago.
Good ingredients for the cauldron, yes? If I look, I bet I have some mummified spiders in the back of the cupboard too....0 -
Luckily I had a new 'K' word last summer so I disposed of it all then, but it was horrifying!!!
'Best before' is different to 'use by' though I think? one is actually dangerous  ???0 -
For the last few weeks I've been flavouring my porridge with
a dash of ground cinnamon from a jar bought from the Safeway
supermarket which is ok by my bride. She doesnt know that the
sell by date on the jar is February 2003.
It's a nice change from the salt which I occasionally use and I
look at it with the same view of a 10 year old malt whisky.
I'm off for my breakfast now.0 -
