Hello - I've only got one hand (I'm an amputee) and get pain in my wrist, thumb joint and back of hand but what I have found most beneficial in relieving the pain is using cut off socks or fingerless gloves (my husband cuts the fingers off gloves for me) and this helps so much - much more than oral pain relief. If I can keep my hand warm I stay on top of the pain. The only downside being I look like a character from a Dickens' novel... ;)

Thanks amytan, a useful tip
