Worried again

Hi All,

It seems we are heading back into the problems again, I’m having real concerns around my workplace, supermarket worker, and the amount of people I come into contact with daily isn’t and never has been ‘covid safe’ since the end of shielding and the promises that were made by my employer.

I hear lots in the press about shielding not being reintroduced due to the possible mental and physical health implications but to be honest I believe my mental health and worry is definitely worse thinking that everyone I walk past is going to make me seriously ill. I come into contact with hundreds of people a day and many customers don’t stick to the 2m rules or even wear masks. I understand people’s situations are different but currently I can’t wait until I’m back in hiding and feeling safe again.

My baby sister works in ASDA and has similar worries BUT they have stated that ALL staff AND customers HAVE to wear masks; any customers arriving without masks will be refused entry to the shop and will be offered a pack of facemasks which will be charged for at the tills on exit. Presumably the other supermarkets will follow their lead shortly.

That would be nice but the one I work for has already stated that we can’t challenge not mask wearing people.

ASDA said that a couple of weeks ago but changed tack on Monday.

As from yesterday it is now LAW to wear a mask as follows:

In England, you must wear a face covering in the following indoor settings (a list of examples for each is included in the brackets):

    • public transport (aeroplanes, trains, trams and buses)
    • taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs)
    • transport hubs (airports, rail and tram stations and terminals, maritime ports and terminals, bus and coach stations and terminals)
    • shops and supermarkets (places which offer goods or services for retail sale or hire)
    • shopping centres (malls and indoor markets)
    • auction houses
    • premises providing hospitality (bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes), except when seated at a table to eat or drink from 24 September
    • post offices, banks, building societies, high-street solicitors and accountants, credit unions, short-term loan providers, savings clubs and money service businesses
    • premises providing personal care and beauty treatments (hair salons, barbers, nail salons, massage centres, tattoo and piercing parlours)
    • premises providing veterinary services
    • visitor attractions and entertainment venues (museums, galleries, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, cultural and heritage sites, aquariums, indoor zoos and visitor farms, bingo halls, amusement arcades, adventure activity centres, indoor sports stadiums, funfairs, theme parks, casinos, skating rinks, bowling alleys, indoor play areas including soft-play areas)
    • libraries and public reading rooms
    • places of worship
    • funeral service providers (funeral homes, crematoria and burial ground chapels)
    • community centres, youth centres and social clubs
    • exhibition halls and conference centres
    • public areas in hotels and hostels
    • storage and distribution facilities

You are expected to wear a face covering before entering any of these settings and must keep it on until you leave.

Yeah we had that info and then told when manning the door we aren’t able to challenge people as it may be upsetting for them if they are unable to wear a mask and it is up to the local authorities to police and not us, absolute farce, if it was my shop, no mask no entry.

It is now the Police that enforce the law with the ability to issue a £200 fine for the first offence which doubles for each subsequent offence. Hopefully your supermarket will catch up sooner rather than later.

I think everyone should wear a face mask when going into a supermarket/shop. Most supermarket/shop workers have health issues and wearing a face mask will protect them from this deadly virus. Anyone who turns up at the supermarket/shop without a face mask should be turned away. I certainly don't want to be in the close vicinity of anyone near me without a face mask when I go shopping.

    Stay safe everyone.
