Being diagnosed

Hi I have been living with constant pain in my hips, knees and ankles. I recently had an x ray and it came back normal!!! I have been told before that I have FAI of the hip so how it’s come back normal I really don’t know. My question is. Has anybody on here have arthritis in the hips but the x ray has come back normal? But yet still suffering pain and walking with a limp? I go to my docs and tell them but I’m not getting anywhere 😭😭

Welcome to the Versus Arthritis on-line community,@Sam47. You are having difficulty in getting a confirmed diagnosis and treatment for your painful hips.

This link may gives info on foot and ankle:

and this on exercise in general which may help while you are waiting a diagnosis:

You could also try speaking to our Helpline.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thank you Tom. It’s mainly my back and hips causing me the problem but I think where it’s made me limp it’s effecting my ankles. But I just really want someone to listen and take my pain seriously my physiotherapist has said that I need to learn to manage my pain and maybe it’s in my head!!! Which as you can imagine made me quite upset! So I’m getting to the point where I’m at a lost cause for hope of getting a confirmed diagnosis and help

@Sam47 I feel for you it's really horrible knowing something is wrong, but it seems to be invisible to those who can help.

In an ideal world you'd want more investigations I suspect an MRI, (X-rays only show bones whereas MRIs show soft tissue damage as well and might show your hip impingement),or something like that or to see a Musculoskeletal specialist of some sort, but it sounds as though your GP isn't being too helpful? Some people on here have paid for tests like MRIs themselves, but it does not come cheap by any means.

If l were you I'd try a different route for now and ask for a referral to a pain clinic. They specialise in just that - pain and pain is what you are definitely experiencing. They are experts in just that field and will do their best to help a lot of people on here have had a lot of help that way.

    Take care

    Hi Sam47

Have just read the posts on pain. Not easy when family and friends do not understand what one is going through. I am fairly new to this site and find that communicating online you know that you are not alone.

I have recently bought a couple of CDs on Music for Relaxation and found out that when I am having a bad day I put the music on which helps me forget my stress and pain even for just a little while.

Good luck with your pain clinic.
