Methotrexate side effects
Recently my methotrexate dose has been increased from 15mg to 20mg and I’ve found I’ve been suffering from severe frequent migraines. I have spoken with my rheumatologist who said this might be the cause but it’s not common and the only way to find out is to decrease my dose and see if it helps. Trouble is they aren’t normal migraines and can cause my to black out but I am worried about decreasing my dose as I don’t want a flare up. I have had loads of tests done including a head scan and it’s all come back clear. I am just wondering if anyone else has experience this whilst being on methotrexate or is it likely to not be the cause? I am still under investigation by my GP but wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with this at all? Thank you :)

Hi @Nat2626
Welcome to the online community, its good you are posting.
You say that You are on Methotrexate and your dose has been increased from 15mg to 20mg but have severe migraines so the Doctor said to decrease to 15mg again to see if the migraines go, but you are frightened of a flare up of your Rheumatoid Arthritis, although you are still under investigation.
As the Rheumatologist has suggested you reduce the drug dose is your GP ok with this is that why you are unsure or is it the fear of a flare up?. If you can why not tell your fears to your Rheumatologist then you can be reasured and decide what to do next
Hope the links above help you. Please let us know how you get on and do chat to others on the forum they may have a solution to what you ask.
All the best Christine
