I’ve been diagnosed with osteoarthritis yesterday in my back, hips, neck, hands and feet. All so painful and I don’t know what to do. Next step apparently is to see physio for appropriate exercises. Are there things I can do. I’m really concerned.

Good morning @Adnyl1 Welcome to the online Community.

I see from you post that you are recently diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in quite a few places and are going to have some physio. You ask whether you can do anything to help yourself. Well when you have seen your physio and have taken advice you might want to have a look at this:

The stretching exercises are very gentle.

As you are recently diagnosed this might be useful:

I'll leave you to meet our members now.

    Best wishes

  • I would get referred to a Chronic Pain Management clinic in your local hospital. They have a suite of support professionals. From pain management. physio to counselling and therapy. All to help you through.

    Hi @DeniseHighland,

It’s great to see you posting your first posts, and jumping in with a helpful suggestion for other members.

Perhaps you could tell us a bit more about yourself and your experience of living with arthritis?

    Best wishes, and keep posting,

I asked to be referred to a pain clinic but was told that it was unlikely to be accepted as my pain isn’t ‘off the scale’.

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the autumn which has turned out to be rheumatic arthritis. This is more likely if many parts of the body are affected. Have you had blood tests which show that it is not likely to be rheumatic arthritis? If not, it is important to exclude this possibility as soon as possible. It can be treated with steroids and DMARDS and the sooner this is done the better.

I take codeine and Panadol to help with the pain. It doesn't help at all. I also bought a 12ft U shape pillow, neck pillow and l bought sea salt to bath in last week not helping yet. l had a PET scan on the 15th February am still waiting for my results. l have been referred to a rheumatologist in May it feels too far. Constant pain is killing

Hello @SWEETPI and welcome to the community. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that that will be your experience as well.

I understand that you have osteoarthritis of the spine and are suffering pain in a lot of your joints. I hope that your scan results come back OK and that you get to see your rheumatologist sooner - have you tried calling to get it brought forward? It is difficult at the moment getting to see consultants.

Our website has some information which might be of help to you and I would suggest having a look around it - to help I've put a couple of links in below.

Please do keep posting and let us know how you are getting on and I am sure that others will connect with you and give their support and advice.

    With very best wishes
