Hi @Btaxi
Before I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right knee, I found that when walking or putting pressure on my knee, it would suddenly give way and I felt that I may fall down. I found this quite distressing and started losing confidence when out walking on my own.
I mentioned this to my Doctor when diagnosed and advised that physio exercises may help. I have been doing exercises now for approx. 3 months and they do seem to be helping, in as much as my knee does not give way now as much.
Have you asked your Doctor to refer you to physio? Hopefully it will be of some help for you.
Take care.

Exercises will certainly help build up the muscles around the knee to help stop it from giving way, and a physio can build a programme that is suited to you, but it mounds like you may need something more to manage your pain than a cream. If it’s not working for you, go back to your GP, particularly if it’s affecting daily tasks so much, like driving and dressing. It may be worth getting it stayed to see how bad the damage is
Try not to read too much on the Internet (other than reputable sites such as this one or 5e NHS). Just because you have osteoarthritis in one joint does it mean you’ll get it everywhere else.
