Arthritis in Hands

I've recently been diagnosed with Arthritis in my hands, it's more painful more so in the joint of the base of my left thumb.

My job includes working in a cold factory, which doesn't help.

Other than putting them in warm water, what can I do?

Would hand warmers help? Keeping them in your pocket to stick your hands on every so often? Cricketers occasionally do.

Other than that I think it's pills or a change of job.

My sister in law works for Amazon. She wears fingerless neoprene gloves i think might they help?

I have had Osteo in my hands for years. It's beyond steroid injections now, and painkillers don't help. I am in line for a trapeziotomy on thumb joint, but I am in so much pain and I just can't really use my left hand any more. Are there any aids that can help?

I use these compression gloves which I think help - though it may be psychosomatic. This winter I've noticed my hands and feet are particularly cold and these gloves both compress - though make sure you buy the right size - and hold in the warmth in your hands.

What type of arthritis?

Keeping your core warm will send more warm blood to your arms and hands, so as well as gloves, think thermals and lots of layers of clothing, warm jacket etc.

Another vote for the neoprene compression gloves, I keep a horse and they really help outdoors in the winter months. I've had multiple surgeries to try to help: Trapeziodectomy, 4-corner wrist fusion, tendon transfer to stabilise thumb and currently recovering from full fusion (both PID and PIP joint) of right index finger. Arthritis sucks!
