Over the years I have found that a lot of things are much more expensive at so-called specialist suppliers which I consider is merely an excuse to get extra money out of us disabled. Do not forget that if purchasing a disability aid from anywhere you are entitled to buy it free of VAT, one does not have to be on benefits, just sign a form confirming your disability.

I was lucky enough to buy a mobility scooter at a car boot sale. Yes, it looks a bit tatty, but nothing a bit of sanding and re-spraying can't sort out. It does what I want it to and is in great working order. Prior to acquiring it, I had been looking at some on facebook marketplace, which were about the same price (£200). It's worth looking around charity shops, because they will have the odd zimmerframe or mobility products and of course ebay is a great place to buy items cheaper than the "assistance" retailers.
