So much pain

Hello!
I started with severe pains in the base of my thumb back in June. This has now spread to:

All fingers, wrists, shoulders, knees, and even my collarbone. I saw the rheumatologist on Monday and he is querying inflammatory arthritis. He gave me the depo injection. I was pretty good Tuesday and Wednesday, but by Thursday night and in particular tonight I’m in so much pain. Could this not be inflammatory arthritis then? Meaning, wouldn’t the depo injection ease the pain for longer? I’d be really grateful for any thoughts on this.

I’m 51 and have always been busy and active. I’m now the absolute opposite.

Thank you in advance!

    Hi @Clarry11

When you saw the rhumy did they take bloods, ie ESR,CRP and full blood count.

these will help to determing how much inflamation you have. also are you on any meds like pain killers or anti inflamotary drugs at the moment.

sorry but not heard of depo injections so cant help with that.

    hi

    hi Mr DJ

Yeah, I’m on naproxen and co-codamol or nefopam when the pain is extremely bad. Yeah had all bloods taken. Had these taken before too and the inflammation marker was raised, but the doctor said that could be literally anything!!!

    So fed up!

    Thank you for replying!

Hi @Clarry11 I'm so sorry you are in so very much pain.

My consultant said the depo injection was partly diagnostic for inflammatory arthritis. The fact that it worked for me (also for a very short time) at my first appt was positive.

I hope you have another appt soon booked?

    Best of luck.

hi Frogmorton. Thanks for your lovely reply. Can I ask - do you have it in your jaw? This started yesterday for the very first time! What treatment do you have now?x

Morning @Clarry11 and welcome to the online community.

Sorry to hear your concerns about pains in your thumb and the spread of pain through other joints.

Personally I would contact your doctor/consultant and advise the depo injection has not worked and how much pain your are now in.

I started diary and took photos of swollen joints and skin discolouration from the beginning and believe this helped me on my journey with Arthritis.

Good luck and keep posting you are not alone ❤

@Clarry11 arthritis is weird. Sometimes the pain gets worse, or we know whats wrong, and yet sometimes its like growing pains we know nothing and it eventually goes away.

Sorry for the delay replying @Clarry11 I had a flare once where it did affect my jaw it was dreadful. In fact my jaw got 'stuck' partly open so I was on soft foods for a while. Luckily it eased back after a few days. Having said that it had been building up with pain for about 10 days prior to getting stuck.

I am on a fairly standard combo MTX and Hydroxy. Unfortunately I can no longer take anti-inflammatories due to taking blood thinners for something else.

Having said that I do still use the gels with caution as teh Dr said that's ok.

I hope you are doing better ((()))
