Hi all

Just a quicky to ask if anyone else is on Etoricoxib 60mg Cox-2 Inhibitor and how are you getting on with this drug.

long story short

since 1985 on Froben NSAID 100mg anti inflammatory which worked for me.

Cancer scare in April this year. colonoscopy/ CT / Endoscopy. all clear but turned out to be gut rot and told to stop Froben immediately after around 38 years use.

This week started on cox-2 etoricoxib which is also a nsaid. Also upped lansapryzol stomach protector to 2 a day and started on gaviscon.

now back in late 90s consutant tried around 4 different cox-2 and nothing worked so was returned to the froben.

So just wondering how others are getting on with these modern cox-2.

    Also known as Arcoxia

here are some threads @MrDJ just in case you didn't find these.

I was on 90mg dose myself for many years and found it really helpful, my issue was stomach not coping with standard NSAIDs.

    Best of luck

    Ellen.

I loved my arcoxia @MrDJ all 'norma' nsaids give me an upset stomach.

Unfortunately I am now on blood thinners for another issue so not allowed them anymore. This is since April and I am still struggling without.

    Hope it really helps you

    Thank you @Ellen and @frogmorton

I didnt know it was also called Arcoxia so thanks for the heads up on that and link.

the docs have upped my lansaprysol to two a day for stomach protection but i take them 9am and 5pm but i take the cox-2 at lunchtime. im wondering if its best to take after the stomach protector.

with so many different meds its difficult to work out when best to take them all.

Luckily got a call from gp saying they will be phoning on Thursday to discuss new drug so will ask all the questions then.

You should be ok taking it anytime as long as you've already taken the stomach protector.

I have lansoprazole 30s which I take in the morning. Honestly they were the only NSAID I could ever take and they helped. For me the effect built up over a few days. I am gutted that I can't take them now 😓

Hope you feel better after chatting to the Drs. it is so so confusing isn't it?

    Take care

It certainly is. almost feels like ive gone back to 1985 and starting the process of illimination again.

I still cant understand how i lasted 38 years on Forben 100mg (flurbiprofen) when many others have mentioned similar NSAID 5-6 years then stomach problems.Only time will tell.

Thanks once again for the help and advice.

I started on Etirocoxib a month or two ago because I was told it's 'stronger' than celecoxib which I was on before. I'm not 100% convinced tbh…

@MrDJ interesting, how is Etoricoxib 60mg going for you ... soon 3 months later?

    @mosborn11

It's rather fascinating, we are all so uniquely different.

Here Etoricoxib 90mg is like magic, 60mg helps but only half.

Prednisolone is zero big zero, considered as allergic to it ... while I read many good reports/good pain helpful on this site-about it.

    Hi

well its a bit of a long story. after the colonoscopy and endoscopy they found gut rot. told to stop froben on may 10th. after roughly 2 weeks the stomach pain finally stopped.

then saw rhuemy in june and was started on Etoricoxib 60mg and within 2 weeks the stomach pain started again so i continued the moths supply then stopped them myself and informed rheumy sec but no one got back to me.

the pain in stomach has continued since july but now spread to the groin area and testes (finally got an ultrasound today at 12). the stomach pain is rougly a 2-3/10 while the lower can vary upto 7/10 pain.

totally drained and gp 5 visits has been a waste of time. around a month ago it was so bad i went to casualty and there was a 5-6 hour wait so left and went to an urgen care centre at other hospital. seen within an hour but said nothing we can do so go back to gp or casualty.

so as you can guess its not been a great time so hopefully this ultrasound may find something but still wont give a reason why the stomach is continuosly in pain.

nope, not much found eccept a plain cyst which is not to worry about.

so back to square one and back to the gp for the 6th time.

    @MrDJ

We are all completely unique, so what works for some does not work for others. The following are details I have learned from research, food for thoughts.

1/ many are RA(s) have been found with B12 deficiency - from own living, at one stage I suffered from extreme tiredness and introduced B12 vitamin daily and it worked. So: food for thoughts.

2/ chewing food - when people do not chew food - often a classic for people with denture = food seats in the stomack far too long, rotting, (too chucky for stomack enzymes= slow/days processing) which can cause illnesses. Particularly valid when one is meat eater, bread, pasta etc. A soup diet over some days is then helpful as it is super easy on the stomack. So: food for thoughts

3/ apparently one can read if one has too much urate levels/uric acid in the body, by looking at eye lid/eye corner & along eye lid and if it is yellow&the more yellow it is the more uric acid. Then a diet can be started removing all food with high levels of uric acid. (It includes alcohol). So food & eyes for thoughts.

4/ all RA(s) should wisely drink lots of water every every every day. So water for thoughts.

5/ May 10th after 2 weeks Froben/stop you stated: no pain. That means no pain is possible. So fact&hope for thoughts.
