Why no extra button on traffic lights?

Hello Coffee Lounge

Pondering: why an extra button has not been created for traffic lights, such as: 'slow walker' = a little more time given to cross the road. An obvious missing button. Statistics say: the largest impairment groups in UK are people with a mobility impairment (48%) - March 2024.

It is but can you imagine those car drivers beeping at us!!!

Having said that the Puffin ones (often by schools) do just that they stay on red until there is no movement near them I think something like that anyway.

    Puffin Crossing

Puffin crossings are more intelligent than pelican crossings. They have sensors on top of the lights and in the pavement so they know when a person has finished crossing. In this way, the lights will only stay red as long as it takes for the person to cross and will go back to green once that person is across (and there is no one else wanting to cross). This can help to keep traffic moving during busy times, it also has the benefit of giving pedestrians as long as they need to cross without being rushed by a timer.

    Take care
