I've been diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis since i was fifteen years and am currently 27 years old. It has affected my lifestyle. My family can't afford the surgery and am left with just living with the pain and embarrassed moments

I hope to get friends here who share like or similar condition

Hi @Fifi27 and welcome to the online community,

Many of our members are young like you and have come on here to find others who they can chat to about the difficulties that living with arthritis can bring , and also to share how you can cope and still enjoy your best life. You’ve made a good move coming on here - it’s always good to read about and chat to people who understand what you’re going through. Im older than you ( much!) and I’ve been living with arthritis since I was 19. There have certainly been tough times, but overall I’ve had a rewarding and satisfying life with work, family and friends. I’m sure you will too. I hope you’ll find friends on here, young and older, who you can share your experiences with. Ask any questions or concerns you might have - there will be someone who’ll know how to give you the support you need.

    HI

I have Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (Stills disease) and I was diagnosed at age five. I am now 56, but would like to help others with the disease.

Although medications have now changed since my diagnosis, the self-help is the same. Exercise for me is key to helping keep my joints working. I have severe damage throughout and have had multiple hip replacements as well as other surgery and I'm due a reversal shoulder replacement. My parents instilled in me, as did my consultant, to keep doing daily exercises, building up the muscle around the joint, which I do to keep myself as strong as possible. I continue to do this as well as take potent supplements alongside my biologics and steroids. I have a high pain threshold, as do many living with this disease, and I suppose it becomes part of who we are.

Your blog Anna, is very inspiring and I'm sure it will give others the strength to keep going in a positive way. I have written a memoir which details my life living with sJIA and how I have navigated it to the best of my ability. Voluntary work has been and is a huge part of my life and I find helping others is at the heart of what I love to do.

I hope to connect with others on here to learn from and support people where I can.

    Have a good day 😊

Hi @Fifi27, in answer to your question above, I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 19. I’ve had several surgeries, on feet, hands and wrists, but not my hips. Hopefully other members will connect with you to share how they manage their pain, and I’ve posted a link below from the Versus Arthritis website that might also give you some suggestions to try. Are you on the NHS waiting list for surgery?

Hi @Gailmoly2 , what an inspiring story you also have told us, showing real resilience like so many people who live with arthritis. Several members have posted threads about their experiences of different surgeries they’ve had and they have been very helpful. I’m sure your memoir would be equally welcome. Why don’t you post a link to it so that others can read it?
