Hi, I'm new here, would like to know what people have taken for pain relief, I'm on Tramadol but doesn't seem to be helping much.

Hello @eve66 and welcome to the Online Community forum. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that will be your experience as well.

We have some info about managing pain that you might find useful, but your GP/Consultant are the best people to talk to.

Depending where abouts you live you could take a look at the following free programmes

    https://escape-pain.org/

    and

    https://www.nuffieldhealth.com/about-us/our-impact/healthy-life/joint-pain-programme

I hope that you get something that works for you but please keep posting and let us know how you are getting on.

    Best wishes

    Peter

Hi eve66. I'm new here too, and I also have osteoarthritis in one knee (the other one has been replaced, but is still painful). I was on Tramadol for quite a long time, but switched because I was worried about the addictive side effects. I've been taking codeine for some time now, but honestly, I don't find it completely helps, either. But I'm just not sure if I'm being unrealistic in expecting pain relief to completely eradicate the pain. I keep wondering if I need to ask my doctor about taking a break from the pain relief so I can get a better idea of how much pain there is without the codeine. It might help me to recognise if it is working, at least somewhat. Sorry, I'm not much help, but just wanted to sympathise. Wishing you all the best.

Have you tried anything like physical therapy, or are you using any topical treatments like CBD creams or menthol-based gels? Some people also find relief with joint supplements like glucosamine or turmeric. It might also be worth talking to your doctor about other pain management options if Tramadol isn't cutting it.
