Osteoarthritis in 1st and 2nd metatarsals of the foot

Hi everyone. I wonder if anyone can help I am having difficulties with my right foot. An x-ray has previously indicated that I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis in the 1st and 2nd metatarsals in the foot. This has manifested itself with a lump on top of my foot which can swell from time to time and has been treated in the past with steroid injections. At the moment the pain is controllable with Voltarol Gel. Of more concern to me is the discomfort I also experience in the ball of my foot with some numbness and periodic cramping and twitching of the toes. In particular I need my right foot to depress the accelerator pedal when I drive the car. This action is very uncomfortable as the toes clench when I depress the pedal. As a result I no longer drive long distances and I am worried as to how much longer I am going to be able to drive the car at all. The toes also cramp in the evenings and sometimes in bed at night disturbing my sleep. I have seen a surgeon in the past who concentrated on the lump on my foot, prescribing the steroid injections. However I could get nowhere with the issues regarding the ball of my foot and my toes. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a specific title for this type of osteoarthritis and is there any specific treatment available?
