Hip and back pain months after labral repair. Worried about the future.
Hello! I am 23 years old, and I got surgery in October 2024 on my right hip. I also got a scan and I have a tear in my left hip, so planning on surgery this August. Although I didn't have really any pain yet in my left side, as soon as they put in the dye to my hip in march, there was pain and has been since, in my left lower back as well! The healing process for my right hip seemed to start off well the first couple months. but this past month or two, I started to get bad lower back pain on the right side as well, and almost constant aggravated hip pain. Although it will randomly feel fine some days. The pain goes from the front of my hip, to my side and oblique, and to my right butt sort of on the side. Not only this, the past month randomly I have started to get foot pain sort of from my ankle to my big toe when I wake up in the morning, and when I sit for too long, not sure if it is related. I am nervous that the hip and back pain won't go away without another surgery, as the doctor said it might be a lot of scar tissue causing the problems. Or if its not healing then a cadaver transplant. And because of this, I don't know if I should go with another surgeon for my left hip, or stick it out and go with the same guy. Anyone whos had similar issues, and any recommendations?

To clarify it was a labral repair

Hi @antoniopens and welcome to the online community,
From what I’ve been reading, it seems that labral repairs can sometimes fail and further repairs need to be undertaken. This has less to do with the skill of the surgeon and more to do with the scar tissue that can build up sometimes. Perhaps it’s worth talking to your doctor again about your possible options? In some articles I’ve read, it says that complete healing can take between 6-9 months or even up to a year, so there might be time yet before you can walk without pain.
I’m not sure which hospital Trust you’re under, but the Royal Berkshire NHS Trus has published a leaflet that gives some useful information about the surgery and what to expect after:Hopefully other members will come along to share their personal experience.
Do let us know how you get on,
