Possible Bakers cyst

Options

hi . I’m under a rheumatologist ( watch and wait ) but have developed what I think is a bakers cyst . I have swelling at the back of both knees but worse on the left with tenderness.

Should I let the team know ? Is this significant to my diagnosis?

    Morning @aseamark

Yes definitely let them know and if possible take photos and log any information as evidence.

I did and it really helped me with doctors and consultants.

    Regards @Naomi33

Thanks for your message regarding a possible baker's cyst. It is worth contacting the rheumatology team, and as @Naomi33 has suggested, taking photos and logging symptoms can also be of use. It's hard for us to say if this inflammation is connected to an inflammatory arthritis condition, but your rheumatologist will be able to clarify that for you.

A Baker’s cyst is fluid-filled swelling at the back of the knee that happens when part of the joint lining bulges through a small tear in the joint capsule. This can then cause joint fluid to be trapped in the bulge. It can happen on its own but is more likely in a knee that’s already affected by arthritis. A Baker’s cyst doesn’t always cause pain, but sometimes they can burst so the fluid leaks down into your calf, causing sharp pain, swelling and redness in the calf. In some cases, it may be possible to drain (aspirate) a Baker's cyst. Steroid injections into the area can sometimes cause infection. You can find our information on baker's cyst in the link below:
