Hi @cocoa, sounds as if you're doing all the right things. I exhausted myself with gardening and cleaning in the days before going in. I do recommend doing all the physio exercises beforehand to get used to them. I'm finding them more of a challenge now but the physio said just start with small moves and gradually increase. So be kind to yourself

thx fir reply, yes I’m doing the exercises and have now stopped the gardening ( just the olive tree to re pot !) pre assessment went well apart from very high bp so got one week to reduce befire meds. I think it was when the nurse mentioned epidural that my b p shot up! WS told can have general anaesthetic it’s my decision will be able to decide pre op. ? Anyway tons if literature to read thru and have filled in all (un necessary?) forms to cover their backs and my outcome ! Just want to get it over with now and back to near normal as can

There’s such a lot if people in worse state I sometimes feel fraud fir pushing my op !

They give you masses of literature on the various options to cover their backs I guess but also so you can feel fully informed. I went for the spinal injection in the end, which was done very quickly and glad I did as I could eat almost immediately after. They can give you sedation (happy juice) as well if you want, but I was fine taking my music in with me. I get white coat syndrome with BP which always hits the roof when I go in, so do my own readings which are OK. Good luck with the op. Recovery is slow, but small steps at a time and on my 2nd day at home doing much better already.

@JPT Fantastic to hear from you and how well you are doing. My life has got busy too and I try to pop in here but don't always manage it as often as I'd like to. I hope that's good, positive news for those following us?

It's just over 18 months for me now and the improvements keep on coming. I was happy I was painfree and able to get out at two months. Thank goodness my physio told me I'd go on improving for a long time and to aim to be as fit as I was before.

Every few months I felt I improved, now I feel I can't get any better but willing to be proved wrong. I've not started running again, but feel I could if I wanted to. I no longer wonder whether I'll walk too far and be unable to get back home. I realise sometimes I do need to sit down for five minutes rather than damage myself, but not very often.

Hope this is all good news to those following us!

@JPT and @Janlyn, it's so encouraging to hear of your progress. I am just after the 6-week stage since my op and I have noticed such a difference, both compared with the early stages of recovery but also relative to how I was before, when I could hardly walk and was in pain all the time, although I tried to ignore it. From reading your posts, I can see I have so much more to look forward to and must try not to be impatient. I knew last night I'd overdone it during the day, when I got a real ache in my hip and back and had difficulty sleeping again, after several blissful pain-free nights. So I must learn to pace myself more and take regular breaks. And prepare myself for all the activities I have planned for a few weeks' time.

After all my initial anxieties and resistance to the hip replacement, I have become a true convert! And hope that everyone going through or about to go through the operation will have similar experiences.

@Jane18 I couldn't agree more - I think we all resisting replacement initially and agreed to it as a last resort, and then became converted.

It just does really keep on giving - every time I feel I've made maximum progress I make a little more - you've so much to look forward to. 😊
