Hi, new to the site. Recommended by my physiotherapist. Could anyone recommend an effective pain relief medication? I have just tried co-codamal but no help.

    Hi and welcome @tracy63

    Where abouts is your pain?

I usually start with paracetamol then two hours later with codeine then the paracetamol again two hours later. This usually is effective at keeping your pain meds working at their best.

I also swear by my tens machine.

There are other things you can use but knowing where your pain is would help.

If you are already using the codeine and paracetamol at intervals as above you would need to speak to your gp about options.

  • Dihydrocodeine, BUT care is needed, can be addictive

Hello @tracy63 and welcome to our friendly online community.

I suggest maybe speaking to your rheumatologist about medication options. If regular painkillers are not working they may start you on something else to help manage your symptoms.

    Good luck, Claudia x

I have been prescribed naproxen and they work for me. The down side is that they are hard on the stomach and can cause kidney problems with prolonged use.

Hi. I have taken Naproxen in the past and it has helped but I was also given Omeprazole to take with it to help protect the stomach lining.

I think Naproxen can only be prescribed by your Doctor, so it is worth contacting him/her and I hope that it helps you.

Depends what your gp has prescribed ?i was prescribed paracetamol then co codamol and inti inflammatorys. Then told if taking nsaid s regular need to take omeprazole because of kidney damage , Upset my stomach they alter acid content in stomach . Found that co codamol snd anti inflammatory s taken furst thing in the morning helped fir few hours . But all cause side effects . During last few months whilst waiting fir my hip replacement I just took 2 paracetamol regularly every 4 hours ( not more than 8 in 24 hours) only wirk if take regularly only tabs that never gave me side effects . Everyone’s different just have to weigh up pros and cons of sude effects

I take Nuproxen and rub cbd cream or tiger balm into hip leg and thumbs - pain doesn’t go completely but Nuproxen knocks me out for 3 hours and I’m usually in less pain when I wake
