Thanks for the welcome everyone. Haven't been around awhile so just an update on my hip osteoarthritis journey. I had an injection into my left hip back in February, it was great immediately and suddenly I felt 20 something again! (I'm 60 lol). It really did work for me, for a while, so was a real bummer when the pain started to creep back about April time:( Was due back for a review in May which was cancelled, re-booked then cancelled again. Since then, flipping agony and a job to put one foot in front of the other to even walk. To cut to it I finally saw my clinician today, saw me hobbling and told me he was putting me in for THR asap and promptly sent me off for another x-ray there and then. Now I'm hesitant, and scared but know it's only going to get worse as he emailed my notes after, and as well as OA, avascular necrosis is there. I've had a couple of bad falls due to weakness in my hip but didn't realise bones could die. Not sure which way to go now workwise as my job involves a lot of standing so will have to sort that. Will post an update when I know more and maybe book in an appt with my GP for a chat. Oh the joys of getting old πŸ₯΄

    Hi there @lizzylou

Good to hear from you again, sorry to learn that your hip is giving you such problems. There are lots of discussions about THR and some really helpful daily diaries which can be found (go to the magnifying glass symbol, top right and write in hips or THR)

Talking of the joys of getting old many of us, me included, are enjoying a post THR joy so do some research and talk it through with the GP and people on here to assess your situation. There are also VA information sheets ref work and employment etc.

    Best wishes

Hi everyone another newbie here, a little bit about me to open with, I am a 69y widow, I lost my husband 3 years ago just 2 days after our 46th anniversary, it's not been easy and I still have dark days but not as bad as it was in the beginning. I have 2 grown children a son and a daughter, 7 grandchildren (3 boys & 4 girls) ranging from 13y to 27y and 1 great granddaughter who is 15 months old and adorable. I had to move 1y ago due to my previous landlady selling the bungalow I had lived in for 11y, I am now closer to my son who has been a great help, although I'm still not fully unpacked as I don't have the storage space I had before even though I have got rid of a lot of things, I will get there eventually. I have had Osteoarthritis for a number of years which as time passes is getting worse and more painful, couple that with COPD I don't have the stamina to do much at a time, now feeling like I am only existing and living.

Oh and my actual name is Lesley 😊

    Welcome @Freedomlass to the community

We are glad you found us and thank you for sharing your story with us. You have had a difficult few years and are now coping with settling into your new home and struggling with arthritis and COPD. Be patient with yourself as you say your stamina is not what it was.

Have you had to move to a different area and new GP? Would it help to have a chat with your medical team to assess your health and social needs? If you click on "In your Area" you may find an Arthritis group near you.

Meanwhile do look round and join in with some of the discussions or activities. The Lets Move exercise videos are really helpful and you can go at your own pace ( something to laugh over doing them with a young grandchild!). The coffee lounge loungers would love to have someone else to chat to so introduce yourself and join in.

    Best wishes
